"Sprinting luminaries Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are the recipients of the 2013 RJR Sports Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards. In other news, water is wet. It really was the worst kept secret of the new year."

"Olympic 400-metre champion Kirani James copped his fifth straight National Sports Award at a ceremony here on Saturday. James defeated a field of 10 other male nominees for the 2013 Male Sports Personality of Grenada after winning titles in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The selection panel also chose teenage swimmer Oreoluwa Cherebin as the Female Sports Personality."

Grenada's sportsman of the year is a 400m sprinter, while a swimmer is the sportswoman of the year. Where have all the cricketers gone?

Once again, no cricketer wins the award in Trinidad....

"Female powerlifter Giselle Ann Jackman was a shock winner of the 2013 Sportswoman of the Year award as track and field athlete, hurdler Jehue Gordon expectedly walked away with the men’s equivalent when the First Citizens Sports Foundation hosted its annual awards function Friday at the Queen’s Hall, Cascade, St Ann’s."

"BOXER Nicholas Walters and swimmer Alia Atkinson were the toast of the RJR Sport Foundation 2014 National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards, while Donald Quarrie was deservedly recognised with the Iconic Award at the glittering function at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Friday night. Atkinson, 26, also copped the People's Choice Performance of the Year Award following her outstanding world-record 100m breaststroke swim of 1 minute, 2.36 seconds at the FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships in Doha, in early December....Kaliese Spencer, the 400m hurdles Commonwealth champion, was the runner-up. Meanwhile, Walters became the first boxer in 24 years to win the award after Michael 'The Body Snatcher' McCallum did so in 1990. On the announcement of the 'Axeman's triumph, his father, Job, raced onto the stage and presented him with his now famous wooden axe, much to the amusement of the audience. Walters, who successfully defended the WBA World Featherweight title and later won the WBA Super World Featherweight crown to remain undefeated in 25 professional fights, won ahead of shot putter O'Dayne Richards, the Commonwealth Games champion."

For the men, a boxer edges out a shot putter, and for the women, a swimmer pips a hurdler...unsurprisingly, no cricketer in the reckoning.

"Usain St Leo Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as expected, walked away with the RJR Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards, while the iron-willed Novlene Williams-Mills copped the Chairman’s Award at a glittering ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Friday night."
