What is his FC record like, given that most of it was played in England?
40 matches, 84 wickets at 38.47 is too expensive for a pacer in English county cricket, and a batting average of just over 21 tells us he's just a bits-and-pieces cricket. IMHO, it would make more sense for him to return to Barbados, and try to play a full season in regional FC cricket, and hope to improve from there.

It seems to be lost on Mike that the yute suffered a YEAR LONG injury and has had a long, hard road to get back into contention again!! 
, without doubt that slowed down Chris's development in a big way, but even then he came back and put in performances like THIS, pretty much winning his team the game on his own but i guess thats just "bits a pieces" stuff isn't it old boy? 
He might find a new county club, he might not, if i was him i'd focus on the caribbean now and try and force my way into the WI side, he's got the talent, now is the time to put in the hard work, in the off season he can always go back to england and play some league cricket or something, but now is the time for him to be fully committed to caribbean cricket hopefully,
The same can be said about Chesney Hughes, i hope Derbyshire release him aswell and let the yute come back and focus on Leewards, no point sitting on the sidelines at this stage of his career, this is the time where he should be playing and developing his skills.

He is 23 now, and as Arnik said, time is running out. He has also only taken one five-fer in 40 matches, so he's hardly raking them in, despite being at Surrey for six seasons.
Sure, he has potential, but so did so many other promising WI cricketers who fell by the wayside. I don't think county cricket is his thing, and that he's better off returning to Barbados are trying to resurrect his career from there.

like i said injury has slowed down his progress, even before the year long lay off he was just little injuries here and there and missing games, right at a time when he was really doing well for Surrey, i just posted that game as a demonstration, thats what he is capable of doing if he's given a good run of games, something which he hasn't had in a very long time,
He needs to work hard on both aspects of his game, but there is still more than enough time for him to progress and make it as a test player imo, hopefully he goes back to Bim for the regional competition and tries to rebuild from there, whether he plays for CCC or Bim it doesn't matter, i have no doubt if he performs he'll included in the A-team shortly and then after that it will be up to him.
