"It is the question that haunts West Indies before Friday's second one-day international. Could Chris Gayle really have smashed 12 sixes yet still cost them victory against England in the first extraordinary run-laden match here?

England target early wicket of 'destructive' Chris Gayle as

Postby MarcusGarveyLives » Mon Feb 25, 2019 2:10 pm

"Gayle does everything to extremes. Even when he does not make runs it has a greater impact than other players who do not make them. Unusually for such an extraordinary player, Gayle still plays innings that are doubly self-harming for his team. Failure is wired into batting but a Gayle failure can also involve squandering a large number of his team’s total deliveries. Somehow, all this just adds to the intrigue of watching Gayle bat: he can even make scoring slowly oddly captivating ..."

Gayle's presence a big boost to team - Bravo

Postby MarcusGarveyLives » Tue Feb 26, 2019 6:40 am

“In the dressing room he's always giving information. If you remember before the start of the game, he was chatting at nine in the evening with Nicholas Pooran about batting and stuff. He's helping all the youngsters. We're happy to have him and hopefully, he'll get another 100 tomorrow [Monday],” Bravo said.

“He's definitely a hero, not even a hero — he's a legend. If you look at the stats he's achieved a lot at international level. he's a special player. We're really happy to have him. He's getting on a bit"

Wind of change for West Indies ...

Postby MarcusGarveyLives » Sat Jun 15, 2019 1:02 pm

"... Archer grew up watching Gayle and now here he was, bowling to him. You could see he was enjoying it. Gayle hauled his bat out of the way of the first delivery, a flat-footed heave of a leave. Then Archer slipped him a short one. Gayle reeled away backwards as if he had just spotted a mouse running around his ankles ..."
