For the first XI, with batsmen, the bar has been set at 500 runs at least and an average of at least 40. For bowlers, it's 30 wickets at an average of under 25.
1) Devon Smith (Wind) 1095 runs @ average of 84.23
2) John Campbell (Jca) 603 runs @ ave of 43.07 & 19 wickets @ average of 24.52
3) Shamar Brooks (Bdos) 632 runs @ ave of 48.61
4) Kaven Hodge (Wind) 535 runs @ ave of 53.50
5) Vishal Singh (Guy) 539 runs @ ave of 49
6) Denesh Ramdin (TT) 799 runs @ ave of 61.46
7) Anthony Bramble (Guy) (wkpr) 613 runs @ ave of 47.15
8) Keemo Paul (Guy) 42 wkts @ ave of 18.69
9) Veerasammy Permaul (Guy) 50 wkts @ ave of 18.90
10) Nikita Miller (Jca) 36 wkts @ ave of 14!!!!
11) Jeremiah Louis (Lee) 40 wkts @ ave of 23.45
For the second XI, for batsmen, the bar has been set at 450 runs and an average of at least 35. For the bowlers, it's 25 wickets at an average of under 30.
1) Shane Moseley (Bdos) 643 runs @ average of 37.82
2) Chanderpaul Hemraj (Guy) 632 runs @ ave of 36.64
3) Montcin Hodge (Lee) 497 runs @ ave of 35.50
4) Tagenarine Chanderpaul (Guy) 459 runs @ ave of 38.25
5) Fabian Allen (Jca) 446 runs @ ave of 37.16
6) Devon Thomas (Lee) 616 runs @ ave of 36.23
7) Imran Khan (TT) 48 wickets @ ave of 25.54
8) Shane Shillingford (Wind) 38 wkts @ ave of 25.02
9) Damion Jacobs (Jca) 28 wkts @ ave of 24.46
10) Jomel Warrican (Bdos) 36 wkts @ ave of 22.55
11) Sherman Lewis (Wind) 30 wkts @ ave of 22.70
In putting together the second XI, I'm struggling to find enough batsmen to make the grade. The other issue is that spinners continued to dominate the regional competition.

And good to see so many batsmen and pacers stood up this year ...yes, the spinners dominated and that's because OUR TRACKS SUIT SPIN, nothing more, nothing less. Hopefully the wukless yardies will get dem act together and push forward after we FORCED them to improve their crap cricket structure, but needless to say I won't be betting on it .

A new dawn arises towards the West, now there is absolutely nothing that stands in between BWICBC and the long sought cricket success it's position in the world game merits, onward to the promised land

Exactly, Gils....
Guyana - 166.8 points
daylight
more daylight
Barbados - 114.4 points
Leewards - 94.8 points
Jamaica - 93.6 points
Windwards - 85.6 points
Trinidad - 82.4 points
Jamaica are NOT bottom-dwellers...we finished above Windwards & Trinidad so they are the bottom dwellers. And the Leewards only finished above Jamaica because of this ridiculous allocation of points from teams which have a higher quota of poorly performing pace bowlers. That points system imbalance should be disbanded, because it encourages teams to pick mediocre pacers just to get points. Leewards only finished one point above Jamaica, so it's not much to boast about, when both teams finished more than 70 points behind Guyana....
You trough-dwellers in the WICB are so consumed by your anti-jamaican sentiments that you fail to see simple truths.AFRO wrote:BUT WAIT!!!..YOU MEAN LICKLE LEEWARDS NOW FINISHED ABOVE MASSA'S HOLIDAY HOME? Technically speaking Mike, any team finishing below Leewards has got to be close to the region of the trough
Its difficult to make definite conclussions on Leewards proposed improvement or Jamaica, Trinidad or Windwards apparent failings, not having easy access to the PCL league table.
We would all be better informed for instance if we knew, how many games they won amd lost, who they beat, which pitches are the slowest and lowest and which team is most affected by this, which team was most disadvantaged by international commitments, vindictive selection criteria and should the points system have an asterix next to the teams who lost the most time to weather ? (or the 0.'S are just for style ?)
Further still, who were the players that Leewards improvements were based upon, will those players be rewarded any time soon but more specific to competition over the last 5 years, how many Guyanese, reflected as a % of top PCL performers, will be overlooked in favour for A.N OTHER Baijan ?

The fun has only just begun.
Leewards won two games all season, Jamaica won three. Meaning they recieved $6000 in prize money and Yard received $9000 (lol) Guyana were awarded $15 000 for winning the comp but I doubt that covers their travel or accomordation fees for the season. They won an additional $21 000 for winning 7 games.
J Lewis (Hurricanes) won the comps promising pace bowler award 40 @ 23.45 even though K Paul was numerically superior 42 @ 18.69 in a title winning team.
D Smith 1,095 @ 84.23 and V Permaul 50 @ 18.90 - 4 fifers 1 10w were top batsman and bowler, although N Miller 36 @ 14.00 - 4 fifers 2 10w took 4/5ths of Permauls 50 wickets in only half as many Inns.
J Campbell was the top allrounder 603 @ 43.07 and 19 wickets @ 24.52 each, A Bramble with 613 @ 47.15 runs and 42 cathes with three stumpings won the D Murray award although D Ramdin's 799 @ 61.46 with the bat was much higher.
Leewards have one bowler in the top ten J Lewis, Jamaica have three with D Green, N Miller and D Jacobs. Guyana have two Permaul and Paul, while Barbados have one J Warrican.
Leewards have one batsman in the top ten D Thomas 36.23, Jamaica also have one J Campbell 41.15, Guyana have Hemraj 36.64, Bramble 47.15 and Singh 49.00 while Barbados have Moseley 37.82 and Brooks 48.61.

The Champions were awarded $36 000, in total, for winning the PCL 2017-18.
I guess they used at least 17 players to do so, that works out to approximtely $2110 per head, for 3 months work, not including coachs and admin staff....
Veiwing BWI selections and PCL over the last 5 years, I see no corelation between Guyana's consistent 1st place finish's & their players promotion to the international select XI.
Supamarket nah tek Winners medal, so what is the motivatiing factor in all this
Few if any of the competitions top ten bowlers & batsmen identified in this thread have been rewarded for their better than average performances, Vs Sri Lanka and Bang at home wasnt a good time
Spectators, aka real Caribbeans, are still missing from the stands during domestic BWI events, so what is the purpose of the PCL, repeating the same thing, year after year, to no effect
The PCL, wasnt professional enough to shed Cornwall's excess weight and he was placed on a special program with dieticians plus fitness coachs assigned to him to acheive just that. Was this an effective use of limited BWI resource's, are these coaches paid on productivity, are they accountable or was Cornwall a losing cause....
Should such a personally preferential scheme ever be repeated in BWI cricket
The zero growth PCL is identical to the Scottish premier football league No TV deal, spectators or corporate interest, no matter which team wins the comp, the international product stays underwhelmingly unexciting.
When this happens for close to 30 years its almost inevitable the solutions become more unconventional, and some excuses.
The Scottish long for the English to fix their problems...(sound familiar), whos taking bets....

The best coach's in domestic cricket are continually overlooked by BWI, in fact I cant remember the last successful coach of a PCL team to be awarded 'international duties.
Considering the fact different captains are appointed for all three formats you would also have to ask why this is not the procedure for coach's
They too are products of the domestic program, it would appear BWI have no use for them outside of bruk pocket empty stadiums no objective cricket.
This post came about because I originally wanted to know who was the best captain in the region, and why that person does not lead the select XI, in their strongest format
If BWI wanted to encourage better coach's and capatins you would think they'd introduce incentives in a atmosphere where ALL the best performers are rewarded, instead of just just the fast bowlers..........Er no, wait
