As the group stages came to a close, the matches between Guyana and the West Indies 'B' at Tarouba and Trinidad vs Canada at Port-of-Spain were both abandoned without a ball being bowled, thanks to the rainy weather that usually accompanies the month of October.

There was an upset win for the USA over Jamaica at Cave Hill, in a match that was of academic interest only, where the Americans won by 74 runs. Manank Patel struck 109, including eight fours and two sixes, and he was supported by a knock of 66 from Aaron Jones. The USA piled up 240-9 against pacers Jerome Taylor (4-34) and Derval Green (2-48). Timil Patel then took 3-15, and there were two wickets each for Jones and Netravalkar, as the Jamaicans were skittled out for an embarrassing 166 all out, Jermaine Blackwood topscoring with 51.

At Bridgetown, the CCC beat the Leewards by eight wickets and two overs to spare on D/L in their rain-affected match. Pacer Jermaine Levy took 4-48 and spinner Jon-Ross Jaggesar 3-38 to restrict the Leewards to 209-9, Devon Thomas topscoring with 46. Set a revised target of 169 from 41 overs, Kjorn Ottley hit 67 and Nicholas Kirton 65 not out as the CCC chased down the total.

The semi-finals, which will feature Jamaica vs Guyana and Trinidad vs the CCC, will be played on Thursday and Friday at Kensington Oval.

Congrats to the CCC on winning this!

The university students dominated the semis and the final, all played at Kensington Oval.

In the first semi-final, Guyana scraped a narrow one-wicket win over Jamaica with just one ball remaining. Nkrumah Bonner struck 76 not out, and he was supported by a 56 from John Campbell, and 30s from Andre McCarthy and Derval Green, as Jamaica piled up an imposing 272-8. Clinton Pestano took 3-56, and there were two wickets each for Romario Shepherd and Veerasammy Permaul. Captain Leon Johnson led the Guyanese reply with a knock of 101, including 11 fours, and he was supported by a 68 from Raymon Reifer, while Permaul saw Guyana home with 22 not out. Pacer Jerome Taylor took 3-44, and there were two wickets each for Gordon Bryan and Nikita Miller.

In the second semi, Trinidad went down to an embarrassing seven-wicket loss to the CCC. Pacer Akeem Jordan took 5-18 to skittle Trinidad out for a paltry 92 all out, Dwayne Bravo topscoring with 27. Kjorn Ottley then struck 39 not out as the CCC chased down the target for the loss of three wickets.

In the final, the CCC beat Guyana by six wickets with more than 12 overs to spare. Pacers Jermaine Levy (4-43) and Carlos Brathwaite (3-42) combined to dismiss Guyana for 204, Tagenarine Chanderpaul topscoring with 56. Kyle Corbin then hit 72 and Kjorn Ottley 45 as they got the CCC off to a winning start, and Brathwaite took the students home to victory with 30 not out. Shepherd took 2-41.

After the absolutely disastrous 4-1 loss in India, who are the players pushing for a place in the World Cup side?

I've set the bar for batsmen at over 250 runs at an average of at least 40 and a strike rate of over 75, and for bowlers an average of less than 20 and an economy rate of less than four.

1) John Campbell (Jca) 298 runs @ ave of 42.57 and SR of 94.30
2) Jermaine Blackwood (Jca) 320 runs @ ave of 40 and SR of 78.62
3) Jonathan Carter (Bdos) 351 runs @ ave of 50.14 and SR of 78
4) Andre McCarthy (Jca) 334 runs @ ave of 47.71 and SR of 84.77
5) Nicholas Pooran (TT) 292 runs @ ave of 48.66 and SR of 120.66
6) Raymon Reifer (Guy) 323 runs @ ave of 64.60 and SR of 80.75 & 5 wkts @ ave of 43.20 and ER of 5.24
7) Rahkeem Cornwall (Lee) 233 runs @ ave of 46.60 and SR of 95.10 & 14 wkts @ ave of 19.14 and ER of 3.52
8) Carlos Brathwaite (CCC) 212 runs @ ave of 53 and SR of 106.53 & 13 wkts @ ave of 15.15 and ER of 3.87
