Hetmyer & Cottrell Become New 'Universe Bosses"?

Postby MarcusGarveyLives » Sat Feb 23, 2019 2:39 pm

"England’s target owed to a wonderful innings from Shimron Hetmyer, who reached his century in a thrilling denouement. With two balls left of the innings, Hetmyer was on 98. He backed away with his feet to make room and crunched the ball straight past Stokes for four. In his jubilation at sealing a remarkable century, Hetmyer ran virtually to short midwicket. Such celebrations may soon become familiar for, such is the audacity and originality of his talent, Hetmyer has it within himself to be the next prince of Caribbean batting. This was his fourth one-day international century in only his 22nd game."

West Indies hit back to level ODI series as Sheldon Cottrell claims five-wicket haul in enthralling contest

"It had been Chris Gayle’s hit it or block it tactics that were the feature of the first game here won by England when they completed a record chase with the minimum of fuss.

But this was a proper display of modern white-ball batting from the 23-year-old Guyanese Hetmyer who made an unbeaten 104 in West Indies 289 for six to register his fourth one-day international century in only his 22nd game ..."

England target early wicket of 'destructive' Chris Gayle as

Postby MarcusGarveyLives » Mon Feb 25, 2019 2:02 pm

"Gayle does everything to extremes. Even when he does not make runs it has a greater impact than other players who do not make them. Unusually for such an extraordinary player, Gayle still plays innings that are doubly self-harming for his team. Failure is wired into batting but a Gayle failure can also involve squandering a large number of his team’s total deliveries. Somehow, all this just adds to the intrigue of watching Gayle bat: he can even make scoring slowly oddly captivating ..."

The West Indies made a good fight of trying to chase down this mammoth target, eventually all out for 389, thanks mainly to old man Gayle, who hammered 162 from 97 balls. Unfortunately, the younger batsmen couldn't match him, and we fell short. It makes you wonder what will happen to our ODI batting when the Universe Boss hangs up his gloves.

Campbell 15
Shai 5
Bravo 61 from 59
Hetmyer 6
Holder 29
Carlos 50 from 36

Although one or two key bowlers have been absent from the ODIs in this series to date, what was the difference in personnel in the two consecutive ODI matches referred to above?
