Having played six less ODI innings, Chris Gayle with 10151 runs sits 255 shy of Brain Lara's West Indian record, 10405.

Injury, selection and form permitting CHG should have a least another 5/6 inns during the ODI WC to achieve this task.

BC Lara (ICC/WI) 1990-2007 289 32 10405 169 40.48 13086 79.51 19 63
CHG (BWI/No IPL) 1999- 283 17 10151 215 38.16 11649 87.14 25 51

Personal aims should never take precedence over the team goals but outstanding achievements are to be celebrated at every turn and it's almost inevitable so I shall enjoy counting down the runs while the haters pivot.

3.3 Hasan Ali to Gayle, SIX runs, Gayle clears his leg again and thrashes it with a full swing of his arms, doesn't time it at all, almost slices it. Still gets maximum.

And yet another record falls to the Big Bat of CH Gayle. This one is for the most sixes in WC cricket (40).

At the time of writing, Gayle is ranked No.46 in the independent ICC Player Rankings.

He was ranked as No.1 on 25 February 2004 (i.e. over 15 years ago) and reached his highest rating (i.e. personal form) on 30 November 2003 (i.e. fifteen and a half years ago).

Statistics are stubborn things.

As much as any hater might kick an scream, there they are.

The handful of overs during the South Africa washout was enough time for Chris Gayle to add yet another record to his extensive list of personal achievements, this time for the most catches in ODI cricket by a West Indian.

Having caught Hasim Amla off Sheldon Cottrell he now totals 122 ODI catches.

He has surpassed Carl Hooper 120 catches, Brian Lara 117, Vivian Richards 100 catches and Richie Richardson 75 catches.

The defeat to England sees him overtake Viv Richards 1015 in Cricket World Cups with a knock of 36 from 41 deliveries.

Added to Viv Richards former West Indian record is the all time record for leading scorer vs England in ODI's.

Chris Gayle 1632 in 34 inns
K Sangakkara 1625 in 41 Inns
V Richards 1619 from 34 Inns
R Ponting 1598 in 38 inns
M Jatawardene 1562 in 43 inns

With 10258 ODI runs to date, he's now just a Gayle storm away from cricketing immortality.

Chris Gayle fails to trouble the scorers while extending his record of ducks in maroon to 23.

Bangladesh once again assert superiority on Bwicbc's finest and dispatch them by 7 wkts.

The crushing loss to New Zealand saw WI's slim hopes of a semi final place vanish completely.

During which CHG surpassed C Walsh to became the highest WI wicket taker against the Kiwis in ODI's, with 22 wickets.

The 87 runs scored from 84 deliveries means he now totals 10345 ODI runs from 294 Inns. 60 runs short of the 10405 Lara achieved in one less inns (295), with a potential for just three more inns this could be a nail biter.

The surprise news that CHG wishes to play ODI's beyond the world cup was not only unsuspected but likely had the haters pivoting in further discomfort.

The party, is evidently not over till it's over.
