Caribbean athletes at the outdoor season

Four of the eight finalists of the men's 110m hurdles are from the Caribbean. The top three were Trinidad's Wayne Davis (13.26), and Jamaicans Andrew Riley (13.30) and Keiron Stewart (13.36), while Barbadian Shane Brathwaite came sixth with 13.52.

Trinidad's Semoy Hackett (22.58) clocked the second fastest time going into the final of the women's 200m, behind her LSU team-mate Kimberley Duncan (22.19).

Whitney Gipson won the women's long jump with a leap of 6.82. while Jamaican Francine Simpson came fourth with 6.57.

Jamaica's Andrew Riley won the men's 100m, just pipping Harry Adams of Auburn and Maurice Mitchell of Florida, in a photo-finish after all three finished in a time of 10.28.

Semoy Hackett of Trinidad finished third in the women's equivalent in a time of 11.33, behind Oregon's English Gardner (11.10), and Hackett's LSU team-mate Kimberley Duncan (11.16). Hackett also came fifth in the 200m in a time of 23.31.

Riley completed a double when he won the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.53, ahead of Trinidad's Wayne Davis (13.60). Shane Brathwaite of Barbados came seventh in 13.93 while another Jamaican, Keiron Stewart, came eighth in 14.08.

Jamaican Danielle Dowie finished sixth in the women's 400m hurdles in a time of 56.85, while her compatriot JOdy-Ann Muir came seventh in the 400m in a time of 52.63.

At the Donovan Bailey Invitational in Edomonton, Jamaica's Yohan Blake recovered from yet another poor start to win the men's 100m in 10.05 ahead of American Trell Kimmons (10.11) and Blake's compatriot, Lerone Clarke (10.13), while Antiguan Daniel Bailey finished a disappointing sixth in 10.33.

The women's equivalent was won by Jamaican Sherri-Ann Brooks in a time of 11.05, ahead of Canadian Phylicia George (11.28) and another Jamaican, Trisha-Ann Hawthorne (11.29). Brooks then took the double, clinching the women's 200m in 22.92 ahead of Canadian Crystal Emmanuel (23.08). Michael Mathieu of the Bahamas won the men's equivalent in 20.40 ahead of Canadian Tremaine Harris (20.42).

Canada's Lemlet Beriket won the women's 800m in 2:01.81 ahead of Jamaica's Kenia Sinclair (2:01.98) in second,

At the trinidad olympic trials last weekend keston bledman won the Mens 100m in 9.86 ahead of richard thompson who clocked 9:96.

Kelly ann baptiste won the womens equivalent in 10.98.

At the Jamaica Olympic trials, Shelly-Ann Fraser ran a scorching 10.70 to win the women's 100m! Veronica Campbell-Brown ran an excellent 10.82 for second, and Kerron Stewart was third in 10.94.

Yohan Blake ran an outstanding 9.75 to win the men's equivalent, with second going to Usain Bolt (9.86) and third to Asafa Powell (9.88). Michael Frater clocked 9.94 to finish fourth, and out of the individual places!

Blake beats Bolt again, this time in the 200m!

Yohan Blake clocked 9.80 to Usain Bolt's 9.83, while Warren Weir was third in 20.03. And in the women's equivalent, there was another surprise, as Shelly-Ann Fraser won in 22.10, with Sherone Simpson second in 22.37, and favourite Veronica Campbell-Brown third in 22.42.

Brigitte Foster-Hylton won the 100m hurdles in 12.68, ahead of Latoya Greaves (12.77), and Shermaine Williams (12.78). Novlene Williams won the women's 400m in 50.60, ahead of Rosemarie Whyte (50.78) and Christine Day (51.00). Dane Hyatt won the men's equivalent in 44.83, ahead of Rusheen McDonald (45.10) and Jermaine Gonzalez (45.18).

Travis Smikle won the discus with a throw of 67.12m....

In a stunning 200m at Luzern yesterday, Jamaican Jason Young, who finished last in this event at his country's national trials, lowered his personal best by more than half a second to win in 19.86, beating his Olympics-bound compatriot Warren Weir (20.11) and Rondell Sorillo of Trinidad (20.44). It was the third fastest 200m of the year!

Another Jamaican, world champion Yohan Blake, won the men's 100m with ease in a time of 10.85, ahead of compatriot Michael Frater and Trinidad's Marc Burns, both of whom clocked 10 seconds flat.
