Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt secured yet another gold medal, when he raced to victory in the men's 200m final in a time of 19.55, ahead of American rival Justin Gatlin (9.74). Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain and Anguilla was fifth in 20.02.
And it was bronze for Jamaica in the women's 400m final, with Shericka Jackson finishing third in 49.99, behind American Allyson Felix (49.26) and Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas (49.67). Jamaicans Christine Day (50.14), Steph MacPherson (50.42) and Novlene Williams-Mills (50.47) rounded out the top six.
Frederick Dacres of Jamaica had the best throw of the day (65.77) to reach the final of the men's discus, but his compatriots Jason Morgan and Chad Wright failed to join him. St Lucians Lavern Spencer and Jeannelle Scheper both advanced to the final of the women's high jump.
Jamaicans Elaine Thompson, Sherone Simpson and Veronica Campbell-Brown all advanced to the final of the women's 200m. Shara Proctor of Great Britain and Anguilla reached the final of the women's long jump. The Jamaican Williams sisters, Danielle and Shermaine, reached the semifinals of the 100m hurdles, along with compatriot Kimberley Laing and Kierra Beckles of Barbados. Jamaicans Hansle Parchment and Omar McLeod advanced to the final of the 110m hurdles. They will all be in action tomorrow.
In more of Friday's action, Kurt Felix of Grenada will be participating in the decathlon, while Bahamians Trevor Barry, Ryan Ingraham and Donald Thomas will all take part in the men's high jump.
