Re: European indoor athletics season 2016Caribbean athletes continued to do well, in front of another sold-out crowd, this time in Glasgow....
Jamaica's Steph MacPherson won the women's 400m in a time of 52.05. St Lucians Lavern Spencer and Jennelle Scheper finished first and fourth respectively in the women's high jump with leaps of 1.93 and 1.87 respectively. Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers won the women's 60m in 7.10, ahead of Jamaican Elaine Thompson (7.14), with Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad finishing fourth. Despite going into the men's 60m final with the fastest time, Kim Collins of St Kitts-Nevis pulled up injured with a hamstring problem that could affect the rest of his season....
Re: European indoor athletics season 2016Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell and World Championships 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams headline a 24 - member team announced by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to compete at next week's IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon.
The team also features hurdling standout Omar McLeod, who has had success on the indoor circuit for the University of Arkansas, Odean Skeen and Kemoy Campbell on the male side, with World Champs 200m silver medal winner Elaine Thompson, Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Simone Facey all named in the female squad. (Female): Simone Facey, Elaine Thompson, Chrisann Gordon, Patricia Hall, Stephenie Ann McPherson, Natoya Goule, Samantha Scarlett, Danielle Williams, Shanieka Thomas, Salcia Slack, Anneisha McLaughlin, Verone Chambers, Ronda Whyte (Male): Asafa Powell, Kevaughn Rattray, Odean Skeen, Ricardo Chambers, Fitzroy Dunkley, Kemoy Campbell, Omar McLeod, Nathon Allen, Dane Hyatt, Demar Murray, Demish Gaye. http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/article/ ... ld-indoors
Re: European indoor athletics season 2016On the second day of the World Indoor Champs at Portland, Oregon, yesterday, Jamaica's Asafa Powell took the silver medal in the men's 60m with a time of 6.50, behind American Trayvon Brommell (6.47). Ramon Gittens of Barbados finished third in 6.51.
Powell's performance was disappointing, considering that he registered identical world-leading times of 6.44 in both the heats and the semis. Another Jamaican, Steph MacPherson, made the final of the women's 400m with a time of 51.91. Among those making the men's final were Trinidadians Deon Lendore (46.23) and Lalonde Gordon (46.03), but the new star seems to be another Grenadian named Bralon Taplin, who was commanding in winning his semi in 45.38. Kurt Felix, also of Grenada, was third in the men's heptathlon after winning the shot putt with a throw of 15.02, and his 7.00 in the 60m was a PB. Ashton Eaton of the US led with 2770 points, with Felix third in 2595.
Re: European indoor athletics season 2016In Saturday's action at Portland, Czech Pavel Maszlak retained the men's 400m with a time of 45.44, with Trinidadian Deon Lendore third in 46.17, and Bralon Taplin of Grenada finishing a disappointing fourth in 46.56 following a suicidally fast start. Jamaican Steph MacPherson finished fourth in the women's equivalent.
American Barbara Pierre won the women's 60m with a time of 7.02, ahead of Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands (7.04), Jamaica's Elaine Thompson (7.06), and Trinidadian Michelle-Lee Ahye (7.11). Trinidad's Cleopatra Borel threw 18.38 for fourth in the women's shot putt.
Re: European indoor athletics season 2016On the final day of the World Indoor Champs in Oregon, Omar McLeod of Jamaica won the men's 60m hurdles with a world-leading time of 7.41, ahead of Frenchmen Pascal Martinot-Lagarde (7.46) and Dmitri Bascou (7.48).
The USA won the men's mile relay with a time of 3:02.45, ahead of Caribbean teams Bahamas (second in 3:04.75), Trinidad (third in 3:05.51) and Jamaica (fourth in 3:06.02). Levern Spencer of St Lucia finished fourth in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.93. Jamaica ended up fourth in the medal table with one gold, one silver, and a bronze.
European indoor athletics season 2016bump
Whos following the team this year? They are playing better, but just cant seem to win. And looking ahead at the schedule, its not getting much easier. This could end up a 3 or 4 win season despite all their efforts. Whaddya think?
