I was one of 38,000 spectators who turned up to watch American Kendra Harrison break the world record for the women's 100m, winning in 12.20 ahead of compatriot Brianna Rollins (12.57).

How many peeps watched that pathetic display by the 'C' team in Antigua? About 38?
But that was not all....

Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt won the men's 200m in 19.89, proving his fitness for the Olympics in this event...as if it was ever in doubt! Alonso Edward of Panama was second in 20.04, and Britain's Adam Gemeli third in 20.07.

The women's 400m was won by Bahamian Shaunae Miller in a world-leading 49.55, ahead of Jamaica's Steph MacPherson (50.40).

It was so much better watching Caribbean winners on the track, instead of Caribbean losers in the 'C' team....
8-)
The men's javelin was won by Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic with a throw of 85.72, with second going to Trinidad's Keshorn Walcott (85.60).

On Saturday, the second day of the London Diamond League meet, Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith won the men's 400m in 45.03, ahead of Trinidadian Deon Lendore (45.34).

The men's long jump was won by Gao Xinglong of China with a leap of 8.11, ahead of Jamaican Damar Forbes (8.05).

But the biggest result of the day was Marie-Jose Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast winning the women's 100m in 10.96, ahead of Trinidadian Michelle-Lee Ahye (10.99) and Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, third in a slow 11.06.

The form of SAFP, recovering from a toe injury, is a source of concern, and her race rustiness has thrown the women's 100m wide open.

Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson won her first ever Diamond Trophy while her MVP teammate Julian Forte was the other Jamaican to secure a win as the IAAF Diamond League series came to an end in Brussels, Belgium on Friday.

Thompson’s time of 10.72 seconds, equaled the meet record set by her role model Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce back in 2013.

Christania Williams was third in 11.09 seconds with Simone Facey 6th in 11.23 and Natasha Morrison eighth in 11.64.

Another of coach Stephen Francis’ charges, Julian Forte held off the challenge of the Brit Adam Gemili to win the men's 200 in a tight finish, clocking a personal best 19.97 seconds to break 20 seconds for the first time, becoming just the 10th Jamaican to accomplish the feat.

Despite not getting the win, Stephenie McPherson took the Diamond Trophy for the women’s 400 metres.

McPherson clocked 50.51 seconds for third with teammate and Olympic bronze medallist Shericka Jackson fourth in 50.73.
