Ah well, all good things must come to an end. Usain Bolt's long reign as champion of the sprints finally comes to an end, just as he's about to retire. American pantomime villain Justin Gatlin won the men's 100m won in 9.92, ahead of young compatriot Christian Coleman (9.94). Jamaicans Bolt (9.95) and Yohan Blake (9.99) finished third and fourth respectively.

There was another fourth place for Jamaica in the men's discus. Lithuanian Andrius Godzius won with a throw of 69.21, ahead of Sweden's Daniel Stahl (69.19), Mason Finley of the US (68.03), and Jamaica's Frederick Dacres (65.83).

Jamaica got its first gold medal in London yesterday, when Omar McLeod convincingly won in 13.04, to add a World Champs title to his Olympic crown. Sergei Shubenkov took the silver medal in 13.14, and Hungary's Balasz Baji bronze in 13.28.

Jamaica now have one gold and one bronze medal to date.

Following the controversial withdrawal of Botswana's Isaac Makwala after an epidemic of the very British norovirus afflicted a London hotel where athletes from half a dozen countries were staying, South African Wade van Niekerk won the men's 400m in 43.98.

Steven Gardiner secured a silver medal for the Bahamas when he came in second in 44.41, ahead of Abdullah Haroun of Qatar (44.48), another Botswanan, Baboloki Thebe (44.66), and Jamaicans Nathan Allen (44.88) and Demish Gaye (45.04).

Jamaica narrowly missed out on two medals yesterday.

Gong Liajao of China won the women's shot putt with a throw of 19.94, ahead of Hungary's Anita Marton (19.49), and American Michelle Carter (19.19). Jamaica's Danielle Thomas-Dodd came fourth with a throw of 18.91.

Norway's Karsten Warholm won the men's 400m hurdles with 48.35, ahead of Turk Yasmani Capello (48.49) and Kerron Clement of the US (48.52). A fast-finishing Kemar Mowatt of Jamaica came fourth in 48.99.

There was an American 1-2 in the final of the women's 400m hurdles, which was won by Kori Carter in 53.07, ahead of Delilah Mohammed (53.50). Jamaican Ristananna Tracey took the bronze medal with a personal best of 53.74.

The men's 200m final was disappointing, and seems to be suffering from a post-Usain Bolt hangover. It was won by Turkey's Ramil Guliyev in a slow time of 20.09, ahead of favourite Wayde van Niekerk of South africa and Trinidadian Jereem Richards, both of whom clocked 20.11.

On the final day of the World Champs, in front of a packed crowd, Trinidad upset the odds to win the men's mile relay, clocking 2:58.12 to finish ahead of favourites United States (2:58.61) and Great Britain (2:59.00). Trinidad were represented by Jarrin Solomon, Jereem Richards, Machel Cedenio and Lalonde Gordon.

Jamaica finished with one gold medal, and three bronzes, while Trinidad ended with a gold and a bronze. Bahamas collected a silver and a bronze medal.

World Champs 2017: Women's 4x400m relay

Postby MarcusGarveyLives » Mon Aug 21, 2017 6:38 pm

"Donald Quarrie, the technical leader of Jamaica's team to the just-concluded World Championships in London, is questioning the reasons behind Stephenie-Ann McPherson's withdrawal from the women's mile relay team. He has called for stronger guidelines for national representation.

McPherson was withdrawn from the women's 4x400m relay team just before they took the track for the final, following an altercation with MVP teammate Shericka Jackson ..."
