And of course, more than just a sporting icon...a civil rights campaigner, and a campaigner against the Vietnam War.

He not only transcended boxing, he transcended sport.

It's all quiet i my head, contemplating what you mention. Ali achieved superstardom in an era when the world was much simpler, smaller and less hyped.

I can say that Ali was the first human and media icon I ever became aware of. I remember listening to his fights. I remember my dad's reel to reel audio recorder capturing the broadcasts on the radiogram; us listening in. Keyed up with the excitement of it.

Damn, time is a-flying and all me heroes dem popping they clogs.

We come and we go ...
What of the stones that we leave behind?

Who shall curate the memories and remnants?
The spawn brewed betwixt us and every unrehearsed
happenstance & incidental that presented choice
As a Summons to Wisdom
That She guide our hands
As we make our marks
In the tale of our existence.

And sometimes ...

Absolutely right! They should go herd dem own son's so they can front-up for dem mama's and papa's geo-political machinations :!:

Ali was a serious nigga before the world really knew just how much there was for black folks to be damned serious about in the good old USA!

Question: How many more black folks gonna be killed by a United States law enforcement official before President Obama leaves office?
