"World Championships 200m silver medallist Elaine Thompson opened her season with a win in the women’s 60m event in 7.17 seconds at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Track Meet yesterday at the National Stadium. Thompson, whose less-than-ideal start was said to be one of the reasons for her exclusion from the 100m at last year’s World Championships by her coach Stephen Francis, was certainly out of the blocks in a giffy before speeding to victory ahead of Gayon Evans of Sprintec, who finished in 7.25 seconds."

You mean like all those cricketers failing drug tests?

8-)
The only reason why athletics is better at catching drug cheats is because they're more serious about tackling PEDs than the ICC. The IAAF and WADA use the whereabouts rule to test athletes all year round. The Indian pampered superstars rebelled at the stringent requirements of drug testing by WADA, and pressured the spineless BCCI and the spineless ICC to reject the whereabouts rule, which is why drug-testing in cricket is a joke. WADA told ICC that there's no way cricket will make its way into the Olympics until the ICC accepts whereabouts drug testing. As a result, much more doping is taking place in cricket than you realise, because they can get away with it....

Meanwhile, your prayers won't be answered...athletics continues to draw fans that stay away from Caribbean cricket.
"Olympic relay gold medallist Yohan Blake is expected to lead a foray of Racers Track Club stars that will converge inside the National Stadium at the 12th staging of the Camperdown Classic today. The meet is slated to get under way at 8:15 am. As was expected, uncertainty surrounds the participation of six-time Olympic champion, Usain Bolt, who is yet to open his 2016 campaign. However, Blake the 2011 100m World Champion who had battled a series of injuries over the past two years, is expected to make his seasonal debut in the men’s sprint alongside teammate Kemar Bailey-Cole."

More fans will turn out for this Camperdown Classic than turned out at Sabina Park for the last Test match held there....

"Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake opened his 2016 campaign with a disappointing showing, finishing down the track in the men’s 400-metre at the 12th staging of the Camperdown Classic, the fourth event in the Digicel Grand Prix series at the National Stadium yesterday. Blake, the 2011 World Championships 100m gold medallist, running from lane one in section three, clocked a time of 48.41 seconds to finish seventh in his heat and 16th overall. The event was won by Javon ‘Donkey Man’ Francis in a time of 46.21 seconds, ahead of Javere Bell (46.75s) of Mico University and former St Jago prodigy Nathon Allen (46.85s) running unattached."

"Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson sizzled to an impressive, yet wind-aided 10.71-second clocking to win the 100m, as wins by crowd favourite Asafa Powell, Kemar Bailey-Cole, and Javon Francis highlighted the 13th staging of the Jamaica International Invitational meet at the National Stadium last evening. Thompson, who announced herself to the world last year at this meet, was awesome as she moved impressively away from a quality field to win in 10.71 seconds, then pumped the air in jubilation after learning of her time. But her joy was dampened following the announcement of a tailwind of 2.4 metres per second which was over the allowable mark, of 2.0 mps, thus rendering her time unofficial. English Gardener of the United States of America was second in 10.85, ahead of Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago with 10.98 seconds. American Jenna Prandini was fourth in 11.08 seconds. Bailey-Cole, who was injured just before the World Championships in Beijing last year, stunned a top-class field in winning in 10.01 seconds just ahead of the diminutive Mike Rodgers of the USA in 10.03. Jamaica’s Julian Forte was third from lane one in 10.06, ahead of Andrew Fisher with 10.07. American 2007 World champion Tyson Gay was fifth in 10.08, as six runners dipped for the line with 40-year-old veteran Kim Collins of St Kitts stopping the clock at 10.08. Jamaica’s Oshane Bailey was seventh in 10.13 seconds. Gay, despite his rivalry with Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, was well accepted by the Jamaican crowd, which gave him a rousing reception, and fans in the bleachers flocked to him for photo ops and autographs."

"The incomparable Usain Bolt brought the house down at the inaugural JN Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium last night with a scintillating 9.88-second clocking to win the 100m, while Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce proved that she is back, winning in a season’s best 11.09 seconds. Bolt, drawn between Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake, walked out of the blocks, catched the field after 50 metres and eased home to his season-best 9.88 seconds with a wind of (+1.0 m/s)....Nickel Ashmeade was second in 9.94, the same as third-placed Yohan Blake, while Asafa Powell was fourth in 9.98 seconds. Kemar Bailey-Cole finished fifth in 10.00 seconds ahead of South African Akani Sim Bine with 10.01....Fraser-Pryce, who was bothered by a toe injury, didn’t get her usual bullet start, but had enough to hold off American World Indoor 60m champion Barbara Pierre, who was second in 11.11 (+0.6) with Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago third in 11.15 seconds....Trinidad and Tobago’s Machel Cedino once again had the better of Jamaica’s Javon Francis and Bralon Taplin in a growing Caribbean rivalry. Cedino showed tremendous strength and eased away for an impressive victory in 44.37 seconds, which is the fifth-fastest in the world behind Grenada’s Kirani James’ 44.08 seconds.....Jamaica’s World Championships 400m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson, who was a late replacement for Natasha Hastings, won the event in a season-best 50.72 seconds ahead of Christine Day, who led into the straight in 51.22 seconds. Ebony Eutsoy of the USA was third in 51.39 seconds, while fourth went to Anastasia LeRoy with 52.00....In one of the marquee match-ups of the night, South Africa’s Wayne Van Niekerk won the 300m in 31.03, which was just .18 seconds outside Michael Johnson’s world record of 30.85 seconds established in 2000. American Lashawn Merritt was second in 31.23 seconds with Tony McQuay third in 31.64....Then before they crowd settled down, the far-striding Shaunae Miller of The Bahamas cruised to an impressive personal best of 22.05 seconds (0.8 m/s) and won the 200m in style. It was the third best time of the year behind Dafne Schippers’ 21.93 and Tori Bowie’s 21.99....Antigua’s Miguel Francis of Racers Track Club stunned the stadium with a magnificent 19.88 seconds to win the 200m running out of lane seven with a wind of 1.2 m/s. It was by far his personal best and made him the third-fastest in the world this year behind Merritt with 19.78 and Ameer Webb with 19.85."
