A lot of people look at County cricket as the benchmark of what a good cricketing system should look like, there's no doubt it's impressive but i wanted to take a closer look at it to compare it to our own structure,

1. James Hildreth who captained the England Lions has apparently said that the standard of opposition in the Caribbean is just as strong as what he faces in County cricket, which surprised him.

2. They have foreign cricketers with international experience in county cricket which of course makes the competition strong, apart from an invited team we just have our own players playing but at least that gives more of our young prospects a chance to play cricket.

3. This season the competition has lasted for nearly four months with the two top teams (Jam and CCC) playing nine games, in country cricket they go for six months and play 15 games a season.

4. Next year i hear there's a good chance the HPC or a West Indies B team could also take part in the four day competition which would be great for our youngsters and also extend the competition a little bit longer, having another team like the CCC could only be a good thing imo.

People think our cricket is "poor" but imo i think the standard is decent and it can only get better when the HPC/Windies-B team is introduced into the fold, the cream of England's Country league could only win two games, that should tell you something, send them to NZ, Pak, SL or even SA's regional cricket competition and it would be interesting to see how they'd get on, something tells me they'd win more than two games  .

To take it a step further, Afro, apparently Hildreth was giving an interview to English commentator and KLAS-FM journalist David Brooks, when he said this....

He actually said that Caribbean domestic cricket was of a higher standard than division two county cricket, which includes the likes of Surrey and Middlesex. He said that our regional four-day cricket was comparable to that played in division one.

Yep it's very encouraging to hear such words from an experienced player who has played in both competitions, some fools love to run down WI cricket but the facts is it's getting better and better, the way Trinidad brushed aside Hampshire in the T20 final just personifies that fact.

Because the WI team is filled with players who have been failing us for years like Sammy, Rampaul, Smith and recently Shiv!! , the current domestic competitions are filled with TALENTED YOUNG PLAYERS like Brathwaite, Powell, Mcclean, Kantasingh, Gabriel, Cariah, Carlos Brathwaite, Cotterrell, Dawes, Permaul, Hughes, Athanaze etc amoungst many others, once these yutes mature the current jokers wearing wearing great WI shirt will be a thing of the past 8-) .

On the contrary, Shiv is there on merit....

But as for Rampaul, Sammy and Smith, that's a different matter.

Maps raises an important point. They're not translating their domestic success to international success. That said, Hildreth's observations are about this season. It could well be that this season is an improvement on previous seasons, so maybe there's reason to hope....

Thanks for that piece of information man! I used to follow your posts on CC, it's a pity you got axed off their, I actually thought that you were one of the more constructive posters in that garbage dump. This forum seems waaaay more civil than CC so I don't see any risk of you returning to your behaviour as on CC. ;)

That said, I'm pleased to hear the assesment comming from Hildreth! I always hear folks complaining about the 'quality of cricket' in the region and when pressed for an answer on what 'quality cricket' is they suddenly become dumb. It's annoying man! Why open your mouth to complain about something that you're clueless about?

I have given up on those people, they seem to be habitual pessimists with regard to anything to do with WI cricket...they must be suffering from a severe case of the inferiority complex. Even after the group stages results and the fact that the Lions were only able to muster 2 wins in the same 'dung heap' that Hildreth is saying is of a standard comparable to county cricket, these clowns still contrive a way to cuss our FC cricket to nothingness! Nothing is ever good about our cricket for them....NOTHING! Not the CCC, not the HPC, not the fact that the Lions were humbled....NOTHING! But thankfully, Hildreth who understands what quality cricket is, doesn't agree with these clowns. I wonder what they will say now?

I'm not saying what we have is ideal, but it's better than what we appreciate it to be...clearly!

Was it you who started a thread on there asking where i was? thanks for the compliments man!!.. at least someone appreciated my efforts on there!! , i would have been happy to just talk about Cricket but there's so many dumb idiots on CC with their bullsh/t agendas that it was almost impossible to do so, so from time to time i'd just cause mayhem for a laugh!! , i think my absence will be felt in the long run though,

I don't even know about the ban to be honest, whether it's for good or for a short period, i could go back under a new name but whats the point? i'm ok here for now, i'd take more pleasure out of building up this place than going back and engaging in the same tedious wars,

So stick around bro, and if you can PM Pacy, PositiveG and Duncy and tell them Afro recommends this forum 8-) .
