Sport Ministry to install electronic scoreboard at National Stadium

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., informed the News Room Sport on Friday that they secured the scoreboard for approximately GY$40 million, $10 million less than the initial cost budgeted in 2022. The scoreboard, which will also have the capacity to do replays, is expected to be placed back of the grass mound. The screen could be installed in the coming months. After missing out on hosting in 2022, Guyana is expected to host India for two white-ball matches in early August after which attention turns to the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League that returns to Guyana from September 13-24. In addition, there should be the construction of a new stand (where the current scoreboard is located) and further enhancements for viewing at the Venue Operations Centre (VOC), located between the Green and Red stands. The continued upgrades are expected to offer increased viewing and comfort as Guyana is scheduled to host the entire finals week of CPL for two more years. More so, there is also transformational work in the compound of the stadium to cater for football, volleyball, tennis, and basketball. The football field is being built on the northern side, and a volleyball pitch is adjacent to the tarmac. A tennis court will be placed near or on the tarmac, as well as a basketball court.
