Former Media Manager of Cricket West Indies Philip Spooner is the lone cricket nominee for this weekend’s inaugural CANOC Sports Awards in the Turks and Caicos Islands. CANOC is the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees. Spooner of Barbados has been nominated in the Caribbean Distinguished Service Award which rewards persons for their dedication to advancing sports in the region. Spooner recently served as the Media Operations Manager of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which was jointly hosted by the Caribbean and USA in June. He was the Global Media Manager for the tournament and curated and managed the first-ever Global Media Hub at Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. Spooner also led on the global trophy tour and ambassador programme with Usain Bolt, Sir Vivian Richards and Chris Gayle. This prestigious awards, set for October 19, will celebrate the region’s sporting excellence, with a special focus on sustainability through the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Sustainability Awards.
