he must make more from his chances when he gets a start!

Looks like we are discussing both Sarwan/Simmons/Rain here so I will continue :D :D

Sarwan made a lot of difference but in the final analysis was it more of the same old, same old Sarwan i.e. getting in then getting out when the team need him to press on? Whatever the answer Idid feel reassured watching him at the crease.

Just to highlight something we were talking about earlier re: batting anchor. After four games Simmons aggregate score is just 10 runs less than the leading run scorer in the series who is Hafeez.

Though he has faced 17 balls less than Hafeez, of the players that have played four matches and scored at lease 2 fifties, Simmons has the best strike rate.

Series score is 3-1. ;(

if yu analyse Simmons in the way yu are doing only one side of the equation emerges.

considered in the overall context of the games in focus here, Simmons does not come-off so good-looking.

so considered Simmons comes-off as a limted cricketer, in good form at the moment and having a great season, batting for himself only, unable to carry the team when he is the ony one capable of doing so at this time, but unaware that he can in fact carry the team, and that it is his job to do so.

had Simmons redoubled himself, girded his focus and gone on, westindies would have won at least 1 of the of the 2 games in which Simmons made a good start.

Listen to Andy Roberts in the link Bally put up! Players must know what they are to do in their chosen proffession. they must do more to advance themselves and not wait on the wicb to do it for them.

Simmons approach is not an intelligent one. he has a lot of ability but it does not include sufficient intelligence to make the fullest use of his abilities. Simmons is not as professional as he shud be at this stage of his career

all this and more can be gleaned from what i saw of his last 3 innings ..all fifties.

compare Simmons to haynes during his career and see what I mean

Obviously he didn't set the world on fire but what he did do is bring EXTRA CONFIDENCE to our middle order imo, no longer was we counting on Samuels and Edwards in there which was vital as the Pak knew that was a weak spot,

Also i'm not worried about Sars form, this is the first game he's played since the world cup man so of course he wasn't gonna blaze up the place, hopefully he'd have a better match tomorrow and then be ready for the Tests.

Thanks for the feedback. Read my post again and you will see that by including the current series status (3-1 to Pakistan) I was in fact widening the focus to look at the impact of his performances on the match results, which after all is what really matters to most of us.

I alaso did this by referencing the fact that though Simmons aggregate score was just a few runs short of the series leading scorer the end result was still 3 defeats.

Couldn't agree more with what you write about Desmond Haynes.
