Going by this information, Davis said the 23-year-old was within his rights to turn the WICB’s offer down. “I can only go by what I’ve read in the newspapers but I figure [Pollard] is only following his common sense. If he is offered a contract with a club and his schedule is clear, I can’t see why he shouldn’t sign with them,” he told the Guardian. “He is a free agent so he is allowed to sign up and play anywhere. “Had he been selected by the board before making a deal with Somerset then I think he would be obligated to join the A team but that is not the case,” he said. Meanwhile, T&T cricket team manager Colin Borde said that the WICB should let the timeline of events be made public so that a more informed assessment could be made of the situation. He also pointed out that Somerset could take legal action if Pollard reneged on his contract.

They're not being totally honest about Pollard's contract with Somerset....
SOmerset could only prevent Pollard from playing for the WI A team if he was a Kolpak. The simple truth is that Pollard wanted to play all 16 matches for Somerset, to maximise his earnings.
Nothing wrong with that, but it does mean that Pollard has typecast himself as a 20/20 specialist. Again, nothing wrong with that, because isn't Dave Warner one for Australia?

That's right Mike... maximize profits and minimize losses Did you remember when WI kept KP back to play curry goat matches against ZIM while he was losing money in Mumbai? Pollard get this one right this time around... WICB needs to step up to the plate if they wanted to be taken seriously and manage cricket properlymikesiva wrote:They're not being totally honest about Pollard's contract with Somerset....

Well, the matches against Zimbabwe were one day internationals, and if Pollard is serious about developing himself as a West Indies ODI player, he needed to play them....
But if he prefers to play 20/20 cricket for Mumbai and Somerset, to playing ODI cricket for the West Indies main and A teams, then he needs to tell the WICB that he's now a 20/20 specialist, so there's no confusion.

if Pollard singed when his callender was clear and there were no westindian prospects in sight... and not being contracted himself.... he does not have a concern in the world. his conscience should be clear in honouring his somerset obligations.
and westindies does not lose for Pollards development continues apace, his somerset time could be of more value that an A tour in this regard.
A tours are about development, players mastering the different conditions around the world, preparing and keeping ready those who can move up to the top side.
and in Pollards absence the opportunity could be used to expose another young westindian player while we lose nothing where Pollards development is concerned.
they should be happy that somerset steps in and helps them to expand the westindian situation to whatever extent actually takes place. the player who steps into Pollards place can even turn out to be a world beater..and that would be a major expansion indeed
when assholes are losing they look for wars to distract the people, rather than seeing the positive side in all developments. for the wicb the glass is always half empty!

where is it tactical for Pollard to so limit himself where playing for westindies is concerned?mikesiva wrote:Well, the matches against Zimbabwe were one day internationals, and if Pollard is serious about developing himself as a West Indies ODI player, he needed to play them....

what in the situation demands that Pollard make any such momentus decision about his career?
the situation is a simple one that requires Pollard to make no such decison and communicate it to the wicb.
all Pollard have to do is go ahead and play for somerset while the wicb selects another player for the A tour, and we all go along much the better-off as the situation really warrants.
things are better not worse for Pollards somerset contract....and the wicb is full of gas- gyarse?- as usual

much more shit hits me about this Pollard sitaution that make me shake my head at wicb simplicity!
how many players would you like to blood on A tours?
there must be 20-30 such players in the region but how many can you afford to send on any one tour....13, 14, 15.
even if Pollard had been contracted and somerset wanted him I would let him go.
and I would do the same for any contracted player selected on A tours who got side contracts for lots of money. and n their absence I would select others for the A tours.
I mean how simple and small-minded can you get...enought to cut-off yuh nose to spoil yuh face.
Pollard at someerset is in and among real professionals with the proper approach to their games, tactical soundness, and the professional requirment to produce every goddamm day,...the exact thing we want to inculcate....and all at someserts expense..and Pollards profit at a greater level than wicb can pay him.
if Polly was contracted all the wicb had to have a contract in place that would free them of payng him while he trotted off to earn a greater pay day...picking up his salary again, when he was done with that contract.
any such exposure is greater, at a higher level, than any damm A tour in which the ambient is full of westindian nonsense...the very crap we want to correct. when we get free help..or mutually benefical help in our developmentr we should grab it with both hands...seek to extend it sio that we reap as much as we can.
the wicb should be looking for contracts for westindian players that help their development....slipped in between the period when they may be needed for westindian duties..like the regionals etc. such contracts would relive some financial burdens, increase development of players who can come back and influence and teach others
