Kieron Pollard has reiterated his commitment to West Indies despite becoming a Twenty20 cricketer for hire as he travels the world playing the shortest format. However, the allrounder added that drastic changes were needed to the way the game was run in the Caribbean. Pollard drew an angry response from the West Indies Cricket Board after he declined a place on the A-team tour of England in favour of his Friends Provident T20 deal with Somerset, but he believes he was completely within his rights to make that decision because we wasn’t on a retainer contract with the WICB.

Well, Pollard has been true to his word where Trinidad is concerned, and he's currently playing for them in the Caribbean domestic 20/20 competition....

That means he misses Somerset's match against Surrey today, and will probably miss their quarter-final against Northants on Tuesday. So, the Somerset contract wasn't so exclusive after all, eh?

In the end, it seems Pollard is more keen on playing 20/20 cricket than the longer versions of the game, despite his claims that he wants to play Test cricket.

Mike,

Polly is a pro and has to make a living. WICB didn't give him a contract so he is not obligated to play on sudden tours after he has committed to Somerset. Why Reifer has a contract and Pollard doesn't?
