The inaugural West Indies Players Association (WIPA) Summer Cricket Camp ended on Friday with approximately 160 children receiving certificates of participation.
WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine was on hand at the Presentation College Chaguanas ceremony and he wants to see similar camps throughout the region.
"This (cricket development camps) is important. This is the first time we are actually doing this and going beyond our WIPA in the community programme and given the success of this project, it is important for us to do it in the region," Ramnarine said.
Children, ages 6-17, took part in the camps at Presentation College Chaguanas and San Fernando Technical Institute and they benefitted from interaction with West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago cricketers such as Daren Ganga, Denesh Ramdin, Adrian Barath and Rayad Emrit.
The participation in the camps was "very encouraging" for Ramnarine who said it was a step in the right direction towards getting West Indies cricket back to the top.
