"JAMAICA got off to a fast start in the defense of the CARIFTA games title winning four of five finals contested in this morning’s opening session of the 41st edition of the Lime sponsored regional championships at the National Stadium in Bermuda. The Jamaicans won seven medals on the first session, four gold and three bronze to jump out to the front of the medal chase while Guadeloupe won the Under 17 girls triple jump the only title that the Jamaicans failed to capture. Under windy, cool and rainy conditions, Demar Gayle set the pace in the Under 17 boys’ shot put when he won the first final contested with 17.31m, just off the record 17.42m held by compatriot Christopher Brown set in Montego Bay last year. IAAF World Youth champion Fedrick Dacres won the rain interrupted Under 20 boys discus with a 58.57m throw while his team mate Ashinia Miller was third in 50.37m behind French Guiana’s Dean-Nick Allen."

Carifta was marred by poor officiating. Replays clearly showed that U20 star Minzie got off the block before any of the other athletes. What would the IOC and IAAF think of our records and standards when we make such simple blunders! I am surprised that none of the other territories is protesting the result of this race.
