If I remember correctly the last tour to England was hastily arranged by the greedy WICB well after Gayle's contracted commitment to the IPL.

As a matter of fact it WAS NOT part of the ICC tour schedule.

In retrospect what the WICB should have done is appoint another captain for that tour.

It's ironic that today the WICB comes to an "agreement" with players over their IPL commitments.

BUT THEN AGAIN THEY HAVE NO CHOICE.

The West Indies Squad departs the Caribbean tomorrow, May 2nd,

That means they should be arriving in Heathrow or Gatwick tomorrow morning, I think, when the weather will be cloudy and drizzly, with the day reaching a maximum of 12 Celsius....

This is comparison to the Tests that were recently played in Barbados and Trinidad, where the temperatures were 29 and 33 Celsius respectively.

If most of the matches are played in the Northern part of England , our Players will find it exceedingly cold ., and that will undoubtedly affect their competitiveness and performances . Let me say that When this was done some years ago I warned the WICB not to get into that trap again .

Indelibly etched in my mind is Tony Cozier being very critical of our Players for having their hands in their pockets while fielding due to the coldness of the weather . I guess that poor Cozier , perhaps in a moment of senility , did not realize that the Players were unaccustomed to the cold weather , due to the fact that our Players prior to the imposition of the ban had no problem with the weather because they played in England when they were not representing the Region . I will never ever forgive Cozier for his stupid remarks .

I also recall that on one occasion , the weather was so cold that ALL County matches were stopped on account of the weather , but Our Players were playing a Test Match despite the weather . This in my opinion demonstrates how callous the WICB treats our Players . BTW these are facts not Fiction .

The second test is at Trent Bridge, 126 miles north of London.

The third test is at Edgbaston, 102 miles north of London.

So you see, Afro, I'm not the only one suggesting that Kirk should open the batting....

As an experiment I would go for this. Kirk's performances seem to indicate that he has the mental toughness to succeed. Yes he will struggle as an opener but he is a player that seems to love time at the crease. He is rusty right now but i think he has the class to carve out for himself a noteworthy career. Opener? A big step up and against the moving ball in English conditions his lack of recent games could find him wanting but aren't his TEST figures better than all of the recent newcomers?

Sadly however, no amount of tinkering will alter the fundamentals: On performances the current representative 11 is not good enough at test level - as the youths dem does say nowadays, "Simple as!"
