Lithuanian wins....American Soni second. Jamaican Alia Atkinson started the race fast, fell back at the turn, but finished strongly to come in fourth in 1:06.93.

'Eight badminton players have been disqualified from the women's doubles competition after being accused of "not using one's best efforts to win". Two pairs from South Korea and one each from China and Indonesia made a series of basic errors in Tuesday's matches. All four pairs were accused of wanting to lose, in an attempt to manipulate the draw for the knockout stage.'

Phelps beat Lochte in the 200m IM to win his 20th medal...this time his first individual gold at this Olympics.

But now it's on to the real business...track and field athletics.

Most of the seeded runners will get a bye in the preliminaries of the men's and women's 100m, and that includes most of the Caribbean sprinters.

In the first round of the men's 400m hurdles, among those in action will be Jamaicans Roxroy Cato, Leford Green and Josef Robertson, as well as Trinidadian Jehue Gordon.

It will also be the first round of the women's 400m tomorrow, including Jamaicans Novlene Williams-Mills, Christine Day and Rosemarie Whyte, Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas, Antiguan Afia Charles, Grenada's Kania Beckles, Kineke Alexander of St Vincent, and Guyana's veteran quarter-miler Alian Pompey.

The women's triple jump will include Jamaicans Trecia Smith and Kimberly Williams, and Ayanna Alexander from Trinidad, while another Jamaican, Allison Randall, will take part in the women's discus.

Jamaica's Dorian Scott will be in action in the men's shot put, while the men's long jump will feature Bahamian Raymond Higgs and Damar Forbes of Jamaica.

It was a very good morning for Caribbean athletes during the first session of action this morning....

All three jamaican girls did well in the women's 400m....

Jamaicans Christine Day (51.05), Rosemarie Whyte (50.90) and Novlene Williams (50.88) all finished in the top two in their respective heats, and all three looked to have more in the tank. Guyana's Aliann pompey was fourth in her heat in just over 52 seconds and advanced as one of the fastest losers. Afia charles of antigua was run out of it while bahamian shaunae miller pulled up and didnt finish. Vincentian kineke alexander also did not finish.

Jamaican Dorian Scott came 11th out of the 12 to advance to the final of the men's shot putt, with an attempt of 20.31 on his third and last putt.

Jamaicans kimberley williams did a personal best of 14.53 in her first attempt to reach the womens triple jump final while trecia smith also qualified with a second attempt of 14.31. Trini ayanna alexander jumped 14.09, but it was only good for 14th place, and she failed to advance.

Leford Green was the only Jamaican competitor to advance to the semi-finals of the men's 400m hurdles, coming second in 49.30, while his compatriots Roxroy Cato (50.22) and Josef Robertson (49.58) failed to advance. Trinidadian jehue Gordon was impressive in coming second in his heat in 49.37, and advanced to the semis.
