Caribbean athletes had some good returns in the first round of the women's 100m....

Jamaicans Veronica Campbell-Brown (10.94) and Shelly-Ann Fraser (11.00) easily won their heat, while their compatriot Kerron stewart had to work hard to finish third in hers in 11.08, just behind Laverne Jones-Ferrette of the US Virgin Islands (11.07). Trinidadian Kelly-Ann Baptiste won her heat in 10.97, while her compatriots Semoy Hackett came second in her heat in 11.04, and Michelle-Ann Ahye came third in her heat in 11.28. Shanequa Ferguson of the Bahamas also advanced with a time of 11.35.

I'm not surprised, in fact I'm surprised he didn't come 8th. What a day for sports, WI collapsing hard and our Olympic campaign continues its miserly run.

Swimming is not the Caribbean's strong area.

The Jamaican Atkinson had an excellent final finishing 4th.

It was another good morning session for Caribbean athletes....

In the first round of the men's 400m, Bahamian athletes did will, while Jamaican athletes disappointed. Kirani James of Grenada continued to look like a contender for the gold, winning his heat easily in 45.23, ahead of Bahamian Ramon Miller in second (45.57), while Miller's compatriots Demetrious Pinder (44.92) and Chris Brown (45.40) both won their heats. Dane Hyatt of Jamaica clocked 45.14 to finish fourth in his heat, and scraped in as a fastest loser, along with Tabarie Henry of the US Virgin Islands (45.43), who also finished fourth in his heat. Trinidad's Lalonde Gordon finished second in his heat in 45.43 to advance, but his compatriot Renny Quow did not start.

Those not advancing include Jamaicans Rusheen McDonald (46.67) and Jermaine Gonzales (46.21), Deon Lendore of Trinidad (45.81), Winston George of Guyana (46.86) and Erison Hurtault of Dominica (46.05).

And at lunch-time, the men's 100m was a treat, with Caribbean athletes once again doing well....

Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt jogged to victory in his heat in 10.09, while his compatriots Yohan Blake (10.00) and Asafa Powell (10.04) also won their heats. All three Trinidadians also advanced, with Richard Thompson (10.14) second in his heat, and Rondell Sorrillo (10.23) and Keston Bledman (10.13) third in their respective heats. Others advancing were Derrick Atkins (second in his heat in 10.22), Kemar Hyman of Cayman (fourth in 10.16), Daniel Bailey of Antigua (second in 10.12), Warren Fraser of the Bahamas (10.27) and Churandy Martina of Curacao (third in 10.20).

Among those not advancing were Ramon Gittens of Barbados (10.35), Paul Williams of Grenada (10.65), and Jeremy Bascomb of Guyana (10.31).

St Kitts did not do so well, as Antoine Adams advanced despite finishing fourth in 10.22, but Jason Rogers finished fifth in 10.30 and did not advance, while Kim Collins was inexplicably kicked off the team for staying in a hotel with his wife instead of being in a team camp!

Kim has a Jamaican wife who is also his coach. In addition, she coaches some of the other athletes so it was devastating for Kim to not have her in the Olympic Village. If what he said was true then I am in agreement with him. Does he not have the right to have his coach with him?
