pollard and bravo refused to sign the wicb contract and gayle ask for extension. these 3 more committed to t20 and the ipl than to wi cricket. so i seh drop them.
the wicb did not offer a contract to sarwan but they said if sars is fit he can play.
sars is fit. so sars will get pick.
the wicb offer contracts to pollard, bravo and gayle. pollard and bravo refuse those contract. gayle thinking about it. players who refuse contracts should not be picked to play for the west indies. they are not dedicated.
re: darren sammy
he is a mediocre player. but he is mature. and he is from the same country as wicb president hunte. i say pick sammy as captain. the west indies cyan do any worse.

Prince...I don't get it.. WICB said that a contract in not a requirement to play for WI. So why do you want to drop these players if they don't sign-on? was it a commitment thingy why Sars et al didn't get a contract? See, WICB was just protecting their interest which is fair enough and so are these players. The Black Prince wrote:the wicb offer contracts to pollard, bravo and gayle. pollard and bravo refuse those contract. gayle thinking about it. players who refuse contracts should not be picked to play for the west indies. they are not dedicated.
You can give the Cappo to anyone ...they still will get some serious licking (see the Winless Windies thread). Could Sammy make the team as an alrounder or would he play as a specialist cappo? Are you giving him the captaincy because of his association or close proximity to the WICB mgmt? BTW, who selects the captaincy for WI?re: darren sammy

Anyways Ganga should lead this squad taking Devon Smith place in your team. Deo should be on this tour to firm up the batting.

the wicb did not offer contracts to sarwan and ramdin, but made it clear that sars and rams can still be picked if they meet wicb requirements. sars has to be fit and rams has to get back in form.BallOil wrote:The Black Prince wrote:Prince...I don't get it.. on the other hand pollard and bravo meet wicb requirements but they refuse to sign wicb contracts.
therefore pollard and bravo should not be picked.
like i said before pollard and bravo are free to choose and do what is best for them. but the wicb is also free to choose and decide what is best for them.
why should the wicb select players who are not dedicated to west indies cricket ?
i say let pollard and bravo and maybe gayle go play in the ipl or wherever and let players who put wi cricket first play for the west indies.

Still not getting it... Here is what the WICB said..."a contract is not a requirement for selection". They didn't say refusing a contract will make the players ineligible for selection. Thus, Pollard and Bravo are available to play for WI.The Black Prince wrote:the wicb did not offer contracts to sarwan and ramdin, but made it clear that sars and rams can still be picked if they meet wicb requirements. sars has to be fit and rams has to get back in form.

is dedication a selection criteria? If so, how do you measure this?
What is the purpose of a central contract?

You are absolutely correct! Players who refuse to sign contracts issued by the WICB are not committed and dedicated to West Indies cricket and should therefore not be selected to play for the West Indies.
There is no question that Pollard and Bravo can make millions playing 20/20. Well, let them go make their millions elsewhere.
You are right! Only players who put West Indies crircket first should be selected to play for the West Indies.
With regard to Darren Sammy, he is not the best qualified to lead the West Indies. Ramnaresh Sarwan is, but he seems to have some attitude issues, so let Sammy lead the team and let Sarwan focus 100% on his batting.

look guys ...I was an IT consultant during the dot-com boom and was offered a full-time job which I've declined to the same company. Does that make me not committed or dedicated to that company? No, I just wanted to be my own boss. Actually, I had to be more responsible and accountable for my work as a consultant.

How long did you work for that company? Did they replace you with a permanent staff? how long after that offer did the replacement took place?BallOil wrote:look guys ...I was an IT consultant during the dot-com boom and was offered a full-time job which I've declined to the same company. Balloil:
In life we all have choices to make, and we are entitled to make choices that are in our best interest, but we must always be aware of the consequences of our choices.
You decided that you didn't want to be a slave. You wanted to call your own shot. You wanted to control your own time, so you chose to be independent. Good for you.
With regard to Bravo and Pollard, they work for the WICB. They have been offered contracts which they have refused to sign.
Listen carefully! Bravo and Pollard are entitled to do what's in their best interest.
But the WICB is also entitled to do what's in their best interest. The WICB may choose to accomodate Bravo and Pollard or they may choose to fire them.
If the WICB chooses to accomodate Bravo and Pollard they will be setting a very bad precedent. In future big stars will put the IPL and other foreign teams ahead of West Indies cricket.
Like I said, Bravo and Pollard are entitled to do what's in their best interest, but if I were running the WICB Bravo and Pollard would not play for me again. I would wish them well and select players I deem 100% committed to West Indies cricket.

Actually consulted for two more years and took up a full time position at the end of the contract with the same company (which was around the the same time of the bust.). 10 years later..I'm still here.
