QUESTION:

Which cricketer has played the most tests as the youngest player on his team ?

ANS: Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.

Denesh Ramdin played 29 tests and averaged 25.75 as the youngest player on the West Indies; Shiv played 28 tests as the youngest player on the WI and averaged 46.36 in those tests.

Here is the list of players who played the most tests as youngest in their team:
48...Tendulkar

43...Vettori

40...Lee

40...SWaugh

34...Devilliers

31...KapilDev

29...Ramdin

28...Chanderpaul

The List

It's interesting to note that Ramdin averaged 25+ when he was the youngest in his team----he currently averages 22.80

Shiv's on his way to averaging 50+; Ramdin on the verge of being dropped. But he will be back if he is dropped. He is still young.

Nice stats…Panditji…

Observations:
Shiv has the third highest average on that list scoring only one century. It is amazing how Shiv has elevated his game and raising his average.

It is strange to see Steve Waugh on that list, knowing his twin brother Mark also represented Australian. Just noticed Mark made his test debut 5+ years later after Steve.

Interesting to see Steve Waugh on both lists with 40+ games on both sides of the game.

I have a feeling that Ramdin will go on this upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Let's hope he can raise his game like his teammate Shiv.

Ramdin has been an abysmal failure and disappointment. He seems to take one step forward (166 v. England) and then 2 gigantic steps backwards (failures galore since that knock).

How can you get out the same way over and over again at the highest level and expect a central contract?

So who are the other viable wicket-keeping candidates? I like this young lad Dowrich from Bim but he's way too inexperienced at the moment.

Ramdin will be 25 years old in October 2010! He is still very young. His wicketkeeping is very good, but his batting has regressed.

Like you I have a feeling Ramdin will tour Sri Lanka. In July 2005 Ramdin debuted against Sri Lanka and scored 56 in his first test innings. He averaged 27.00 in 2 tests in that series.

I believe Ramdin understands that he has to apply himself more at the wicket. He needs to be more focused and disciplined.

I wish Lil Ramo well.

Of course I won't be surprised if the Titties lay the blame squarely on the Ramdin's Guyanese fiance. Dem Tittie men have been known to get some serious tabanka for Guyanese woman - they get basody and can't score runs nah more. :D

Sarwan could answer this one..  He has the experience with that hook shot. Could this be the reason why he didn't get a contract too?

panditji: imo ramdin has some mental issues he needs to iron out. the man has tons of talent. he is the best wicketkeeper in the caribbean today. but ramdin does not take his batting as seriously as he should. ramdin seems to always be in a hurry at the wicket.

i think the wicb not offering ramdin a contract will wake him up.

just like i expect sars to wake up i expect ramdin to wake up.

Too different situations. Sars had massive numbers in 2009 to back him up and a test avg in the 40's to boot. The central contract snub for Sars seems to be more political than anything else. It seems he's aligned himself too closely to Ramnarine and the Board is making him pay for it.

Ramdin's batting is now just plain mediocre - even his strongest supporter, Bishop, called for him to be dropped after his last ODI inning when he got out chopping on to his stumps yet again.

Agreed! However, was just trying to point out that Sars doing the same thing with the hook shot.
