It's no longer enough to say that Michael Clarke is merely in the form of his life. After Thursday's undefeated 224 against South Africa at Adelaide, there is an argument for saying he is in the form of any batsman's life in the history of Test cricket – including Don Bradman.

Clarke's 243-ball beauty pageant, part of Australia's first-day Blitzkrieg of 482 for 5 – the most they have scored in a day's play since 1901 – made him the first player to score four Test double-hundreds in a single year.

Bradman managed three of the blighters in 1930. It's only fair to point out that he batted only eight times that year to the 12 innings Clarke has managed so far in 2012. Even so, a fourth double eluded him.

Twenty one centuries in 85 tests is quite an achievement.

Michael Clarke has hit 4 doubles in 2012---actually 3 double and a triple----and his ICC rating is yet to reach the 900 mark----he is now at 890.

It just goes to show how difficult it is to achieve a 900 rating----a batsman has to be remarkably consistent---the last batsman to reach the elusive 900 ICC rating was Shiv Chanderpaul.

If Clarke scores another hundred in the next test at Perth he will enter the elite ICC 900 club----he will become the 26th batsman in test history to join that club.

A look at the averages of Clarke in recent series shows that he has had some difficulty:
1. In the series in the WI earlier this year Clarke only averaged 31.33.
2.Against India in Oz he averaged 125.50
3.In the ashes in Oz he averaged 21.44

Still 21 centuries in 85 tests is extremely good. Most greats can barely manage 1 every 5 tests.

Now that Clarke is captain he seems to be even more focused. Expect runs from him in the next ashes contest.
