LinkOver 550 cricket fans made their way to the Beausejour Cricket Ground on Tuesday evening.
The new West Indies Cricket Captain Darren Sammy for the second time within 96 hours was showered by the Government of St.Lucia. The historic moment was when in collaboration with the St. Lucia National Cricket Association and one of the island’s leading communication companies Digicel it staged a special event to honour the West Indies Captain. Also in attendance were other government ministers, Deputy Leader of the St. Lucia Labour Party Phillip J. Pierre, Digicel representatives, SLNCA Executive and members of Darren’s immediate family and close friends.
Speaking at the event was St.Lucia Minister for Youth and Sports Honourable Lenard Montoute who indicated that his ministry will put in place a special programme to truly honor the achievements of Darren Sammy and high jump bronze medalist at the Commonwealth Games in India Levern Spencer to prepare others who may aspire to these heights to maximize on their progress and success.
Montoute said, “We are going to launch a programme for people like Darren should he have the time, Levern who has turned professional should she have the time if she is willing to participate, others such as Dalton Polius, and other young sports personalities who are up and coming and who we know have the potential. We are going to put in place a programme for personal development and life skills. These programmes will ensure that we equip those ambassadors with skill in communication and leadership.”
