David Warner to join Australia A squad in Zimbabwe and South Africa
The Cricket Australia National Selection Panel (NSP) today advises that David Warner will be released from the Australian Ashes squad on the VB Tour of England to join the Australia A squad in Africa to play a Zimbabwe XI and South Africa A.
Warner will depart later this week and link up with Australia A in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Commenting on the decision, National Selector John Inverarity said: “David has trained hard and been very supportive of the team and his team-mates during the past few weeks, but his preparation for the First Test was not ideal. He is in need of match practice and runs in the longer format and the Australia A games in Zimbabwe and South Africa will provide him with the best possible opportunity.
“David remains a member of the Ashes Squad and will return to the England at an appropriate time once we’re happy he has had adequate preparation in match conditions.
“Steve Smith will stay on with the Ashes squad for the full tour in England. As a consequence of this Aaron Finch will take over the captaincy of Australia A while Alex Doolan has been promoted to vice-captain.
“The NSP also announces that Ashton Agar has become an official member of the Ashes squad for the series,” Inverarity said.

Australia tour of England and Scotland, 1st Investec Test: England v Australia at Nottingham, Jul 10-14, 2013 What gripping cricket!
England 215
Australia 206/9 (51.0 ov)
Australia trail by 9 runs with 1 wicket remaining in the 1st innings
Ashton Agar (lhb) on debut, in The Ashes, not yet twenty years old, last man in, is 63 not out! Unbelievable. His strike rate is 111.66. At the time of writing this post the last wicket partnership is approaching 100. Unbelievable.
Smith, one of my picks as a cricketer to watch also played well.
Aussies take the lead as i post. Century partnership reached.
What compelling cricket. This is Testing cricket

Hampshire scholars link up with Ashes squad
Six of Australia’s AIS Hampshire scholars will get the opportunity to soak up the excitement and prestige of the Ashes as they join the squad over the coming month in a development capacity.
Ashton Turner, Scott Henry, Cameron Boyce, Alex Keath, Will Bosisto and Travis Head will each join the squad for five days over the first, third and fourth Tests. Boyce was a late addition to the Hampshire scholars program replacing 19-year-old Ashton Agar who made his Test debut at Trent Bridge.
The six players currently play for six different club teams in the Southern Electric Premier League in Hampshire.
Turner and Henry are the first two players the join the team and are currently in Nottingham.
Executive General Manager Team Performance Pat Howard said the opportunity for some of Australia’s brightest cricketing prospects to be in and around an Ashes Series was fantastic.
“These players have already been lucky enough to spend eight weeks in England with Hampshire Cricket generously offering them the chance to learn and play in local conditions. For the players to be exposed to the pressure and atmosphere of an Ashes Series in England is a rare opportunity.
“The experience and knowledge they will gain in just a short period with the squad will hopefully accelerate their development as Australia’s future professional cricketers. This initiative is another element of our player pathway program designed to prepare these players for international cricket,” Howard said.
West Australian Turner said the chance to spend some time with the squad was unbelievable.
“I have had the chance to bowl to the Aussie team in the nets at home before but being at an Ashes Test is a whole other level.
“Just being in and around the group and being able to soak up some of the excitement is an awesome experience and I think will help us cope with big occasions should we get the opportunity to play at this level in the future,” said Turner.
Turner said he has enjoyed catching up with his old Under 19 teammate Agar.
“I have played a lot of cricket with Ash, both in WA and for the Under 19s. It was awesome to be there to see him get his Baggy Green and then to play the innings he did under that pressure was just fantastic,” Turner said.
Boyce and Keath will join the squad at Old Trafford for the third Test while Head and Bosisto will link up with the side in Durham.
Cricket Australia partnered with Hampshire Cricket to send the players to Ageas Bowl International Cricket Academy (ABICA) in England where players have the opportunity to train and play in elite state-of-the-art facilities in England during Australia’s domestic off-season.
The program and partnership with Hampshire Cricket forms part of the 2013 AIS Men’s Cricket Program and the Kerry Packer Foundation will provide scholarships to the selected players, in its continued endeavour to support young cricketers.

Australia needs another 137 runs with four wickets in hand to secure victory in the first Ashes Test against England heading into the last day at Trent Bridge.
Australia eventually dismissed England for 370, leaving Australia a target of 311 for victory. Mitchell Starc and Peter Siddle took three wickets each while James Pattinson and Ashton Agar also took two each.
In response, Shane Watson (46) and Chris Rogers (52) got the tourists off to a good start with an 84-run opening stand and at 3-161 Australia was mounting a strong chase, however the loss of 3-3 late in the day put Australia slightly on the back foot heading into the final day.
At the close of play, Ashton Agar is not out on one and Brad Haddin is unbeaten on 11.

Australia tour of England and Scotland, 2nd Investec Test: England v Australia at Lord's, Jul 18-22, 2013
England 28/3 (6.1 ov) ... and went on to score 361. Australia in response are 104/9. It sure looks like Australia have an uphill struggle to avoid defeat in this game.
