West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara has joined Zimbabwe as a batting consultant, over three years after his retirement from international cricket.

Lara will work with the Zimbabwe players during the ICC World Cup in the subcontinent early next year ahead of their return to the Test arena, against Bangladesh in May.

“It’s a well-structured contract,” said the 41-year-old.

“I’m definitely looking forward to working with the team…”

IT was billed as the Brian Lara comeback show but, even as the legendary batsman played his last match for Southern Rocks and flew out of the country yesterday, it had become very clear that there was more to this Stanbic Twenty20 series than just the magic that comes with a dance with the West Indies superstar.

The former Windies’ skipper will not feature in the remainder of the Stanbic Twenty20 series, because of commitments elsewhere around the world where his brand name is hot property, and left after playing three innings and scoring exactly 100 at an average of 33.33 runs.
