Demerara’s match in GT to start today
While the scheduled opening day of the Demerara/Rest Team match at the DCC ground yesterday has been postponed to today due to heavy rain in the City, Berbice Leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo took 5-34 against Essequibo at Blairmont on the first day of their 2nd round encounter of the GCB 4-day senior cricket tournament.
Even without Test pacer Brendon Bess and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul due to their West Indies ‘A’ team ‘Test’ commitments in St Vincent the Berbicans had little problems taking wickets at regular intervals despite a top score of 28 each from Jason Heyliger and Kenzo Baksh.
Bishoo, the twenty-five year-old West Indies ‘A’ limited overs player, shrugged off his surprise omission from the Regional 4-day team despite taking 71 wickets from 18 First-Class matches, by spinning webs around the hapless Essequibians in his impressive 19-overs spell.
