Howzdat, What do you make of these figures for 2013.

CG 40.33 > DM B 22.28 > K P 18.66.

These are averages, right?

Without very much in-depth thought:

CG 40.33 > DM B 22.28 > K P 18.66 =
failed to meet requirements > continues to under-perform > would have hoped to do better

Yes, I could be accused of avoiding the tale of the raw numbers, but as the only opener of the 3, his personal responsibility to set the team up more often than not is not been served by a 40.33 average.

The bottom line is Gayle has gotten the sum total of two tons since he returned and NO 50s!!..and in that time he's played

2 test vs NZ= scored one ton failed in the second test

2 test vs Bang= failed like a dunce all through the series

2 test vs Zim= scored one ton done nothing else

2 test vs india= failed again

IT'S NOT BEEN GOOD ENOUGH!!..IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT.

:?: How much more thought needs to be applied to a years aggregate, they all play the same number of match's, in the same team and face the same opposition.

A 40 Avg in Test cricket is viewed as the bench mark for international Batsmen, unless you can reveal another metric that show's this failure, I know the amount of tons scored isn't it.

All player averages could always be better, other than Shiv* and Samuels none have been.

I guess 18 and 22 averages just don't concern you as much, which is your prerogative.

Btw KP is Kieran Powell, and his 18 average ensures DM Bravo faces the new ball regularly.

KP is a youngster finding his way and HAS OUTPERFORMED GAYLE IN TWO OF THE LAST FOUR SERIES WHILE ALSO BEING EQUAL TO HIM AGAINST NZ!!!..thats why i'm not giving him any stick yet!!..Gayle is meant to be a SENIOR BATSMAN but has been an utter shambles bar TWO innings since he came back!!..keep making your excuses!!..it simply doesn't wash imo  .

dumbo howzdat read KP as Kevin Peterson.

So, as predicted, my opinion in the face of raw data can be seen as leaky as a strainer. I have no problem with that and i acknowledge every record that Chris Gayle will surpass. However, the more thought would be summed up as considerations that always find me having a could-have-done-better feeling about CG.

40.33 average. Fantastic. But how much more was required of him ...

Yeah Howzdat, no doubt, me too. I'm sure you could find many more like minded people, but it is what it is. Could have done better is a metaphor for all walks of life.

My only concern is when that metric isn't applied universally to all players / people.

It's that same skewed process that allows the present Captain to attain a position, that for all intents and purposes, he is not qualified for, I'm sure you can see this.

:?: Do you expect any less of Bravo and Powell.

and i have no lesser expectations on the other batsmen but that they start fulfilling and returning on potential.
