If I'm reading this correctly, this is a serious indictment of the failures of Radford in forming the HPC:
http://www.windiesfans.com/index.php?op ... &Itemid=50" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"7.West Indies High Performance Programme to cater to the ‘next in line’ West Indies players (effectively the West Indies A Team)"
The implication is that the HPC is NOT doing that now. Well, I could've told them that....
The HPC comprises what some biased individuals (Radford, Beckles) calls "promising" youngsters, but promise without consistency amounts to nothing, as we've seen four years on, that Brooks, Bess, Chandrika, Creary, and Cottoy are proven failures, while there are a number of players who have made their national sides but still haven't shown the consistency required to attract the notice of the selectors (Dowrich, Corbin, McClean), and there are those who are in and out of the WI team, but can't secure their spot (Holder, Permaul, Thomas, Gabriel, Powell). If those four are picked for the A team, along with Bonner and Delorn, that makes just seven out of 15 - a very poor return for Radford's HPC.
Pybus seems to be saying that the HPC should either BE the A team, or should be the team that feeds into the A team. Which, by implication, means that these guys should at least be performing consistently at dung heap, and making the team of the round, instead of one good knock in ten, which Afro ends up raving over. We need the stats to pick the A team and HPC members, not Afro....

LOL mike rambling again?
DODGY TEACHER!!..please name a SINGLE cricket academy anywhere in the world that 100% of it's students went on to be top class!!..PLEASE GIVE ME A FECKING LAUGH!!
I know you're still bitter after Jamaica get beat and SENIORS like Fatbert, Bernard and Killa are failing but the fact of the matter is the HPC has helped harness some good talent in the region which are currently playing the the one day and test sides!!..it's that simple...what more could Radford do after spending just short amounts of time with them? they were taught how to be professionals and given instructions on what to work on where their own games were concerned!!...what more do you expect from the man? and do you blame the Jamaican coach for the absolute garbage batting from his side over the past two years?

Afro, these players were already the best youth performers in the region, having played in the youth competitions, so it's not like Radford took some non-performers, and converted them into potential national players. Instead, he took potential national players, and converted a number of them into mediocre players who can't make the national side. You can't develop them on a regional basis. This has to be done on a national basis instead.
The problem lies with the stage where the HPC picks its players. They pick way too early, and they pick players who have not achieved at the higher, FC level, and are inconsistent. As a result, favouritism comes into play. Then, there is the problem of what happens to the players when they leave the HPC. There is no plan for how they develop.
In England, for example, the academies are in the respective counties. Prospective England players are only called into the England Lions team, which is the A team. If we're going to develop academies, then you need to develop them in their respective countries, i.e. Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, etc.
The HPC is nothing more than a vanity project, by Beckles, and taking these green youngster on tour is counter-productive. They need to earn the right to go on tour AFTER they've mastered home conditions.
It's simple - you have the A team, with the second XI. That is either the HPC, or the HPC comprises the third XI, just under the A team, with players pulled from the best performers of dung heap, regardless of age and perceived levels of fitness. And academies need to be developed in the individual countries. Let them decide who is talented enough to be selected, not Radford....

So true....Googley wrote:Mike,
Can WICB run a cake shop successfully? NO!
how can they properly run an academy?
An academy is only as successful as the people running it!
To me, this is the biggest indictment on the failure of Radford's HPC:

"Only five newcomers have been introduced in the Test team in the five series since 2012; Narine alone is assured of his place in the series."

Surely, one of the purposes of a Sagicor Academy is to prepare our guys for the wider demands of cricket as well....
And yet, when I watched Raymon Reifer being interviewed at the CPL, it was so painful to view. His command of the English language was so limited.
In contrast, Desmond Haynes looked so comfortable in front of the mike. His vocabulary was so much superior to Reifer's.
How many CXC's do our guys have? If they didn't have cricket, what else could they do?
Back in the day, players like Holding got enough subjects to hold their own, and secure a job at a bank, etc. Holding studied computing, after all....
Can these COTR graduates do that? When I watched Reifer's interview, it made me wonder exactly what Reifer was doing at the CCC. What exactly was he studying at UWI, if that's where he was?

Unlike YOU Mike...Raymon isn't English, therefore he's NOT PERMITTED to speak like your queen!! . He comes from a familiy structure who has cricket in their blood...so cricket was always gonna be his focus growing up. Bottom line is he's MADE IT!!..he might not be a dodgy teacher like you but you can rest assured he'll be making more money in his career than your wukless rass ever did!! .mikesiva wrote:Surely, one of the purposes of a Sagicor Academy is to prepare our guys for the wider demands of cricket as well....
