The quality of club cricket is so low that it doesn't quite cut it at this level....Picking Roach would be a very big risk at this stage. If they do pick him, expect him to break down at some time during the Test series.

However, I do think that if he wants to play in the Tests, then he has to play in one or both of the warm-up matches in Trelawny.

As for Holder, his last competitive match was in the dung heap back in March...he's been warming the bench at Hyderbad since then. That cannot be enhancing arguments for his selection...he won't be fit enough to play three back-to-back Tests.

Playing both Roach and Holder would be a serious risk....

Well according to the reporter who broke the story that Ramdin would become test captain, has broken news of a 20 man training squad for the NZ series:

http://www.guardian.co.tt/sport/2014-05 ... inis-kiwis

Denesh Ramdin (captain), Chris Gayle, Kraigg Brathwaite, Keiran Powell, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kirk Edwards, Jermaine Blackwood, Sunil Narine, Shannon Gabriel, Jerome Taylor, Sulieman Benn, Shane Shillingford, Kenroy Peters, Shane Dowrich, Ashley Nurse, Jason Holder and Kemar Roach.

Seems as if the selectors see use in Peters, strange choice - surely one of the younger left-arm quicks like Cottrell or D Johnson is a better luck.

Dorwich over Walton is interesting. Think Walton is the clear # 2 - but Dorwich is a talent nevertheless.

Same with Nurse over Bishoo.

Very refreshing squad there i think..and i agree Colin Johnson would have been better but perhaps Peters is just in the form of his life? you never know what could happen man...it's clear that they will be going with two spinners this time though which is the obvious way forward, so Peters playing is rather remote right now.

Also great to see Blackwood amoungst the group...word is the selectors are very big on him and he could be vying for the number six spot along with Dwayne Bravo and Marlon Samuels....Young Dowrich is there to be around the senior guys and gain experience..the boy is seen as Ramdin's long term replacement from what i gather and rightly so!!..the boy can bat.

Old boy!!..the club games would only be for him to stretch his legs and get some game time!!.."quality" doesn't matter at this junture. He'll face that in the warm up games vs NZ anyway. Let's not pretend like he's just some "normal" player we can leave out here...HE IS A WORLD CLASS BOWLER THAT COULD PLAY FOR ANY SIDE IN THE WORLD...FULLSTOP. So he should get every chance possible to play.

As for Holder...we'll yes leading up to the series he's not exactly in a groove but the fact is talent wise he has massive potential...how many games did Holding play before going to australia with the test side? He's proven himself at one day level and his first class stats are there for all to see...it's time to throw him in the test arena now...he also has some of the NZ batsmen's number from what i remember, Williamson certainly didn't like facing him.

I watched Peters bowl on ustream during the 4-day season & spoke the some of my Trinidad media friends about him. All people were surprised that he took so much wickets, rather than suggesting he could be a old player suddenly peaking & thus deserves a windies place.

But its only a training squad, once he dont make the final 13/14 man squad Im good.

Our bowling attack in the last Test against the Kiwis down under was Tino Best, Darren Sammy, Veerasammy Permaul, Sunil Narine and Narsing Deonarine.

Our bowling attack in the very next Test - the first against the Kiwis in the Caribbean - is Jerome Taylor, Kemar Roach, Shane Shillingford and Suleimann Benn.

What a complete change...but is it a change for the better?
