Says all you need to know about where our cricket is right now.

A press conference about Caribbean athletics or football, in contrast, will have young people there, and more people in attendance.
Honestly mike are you really that STUPID? you try and get your little diggs in on cricket and caribbean cricket but where were the "fans" in the athletic championship that took place in RUSSIA the other day?

At least cricket world cups have people ATTENDING!! 8-) .

The biggest revelation from the presser is Cameron's explanation as to how the WICB projected a 100% revenue increase, under the new FTP.

- He explained for that since the WICB only makes money from home series vs India or England, they will be at a loss for the end of their next financial cylce which is up on September 30, 2014.

- So for the new 2015-2023 ICC cycle under the revamped ICC, the WICB for the 1st time will be be able to make money when they go on tour. Of course depending on who they tour, the money they will make will vary.

- Also they will be able to tap into the new ICC "Test match fund", which will help to fund home tours against the other countries, which is usually unprofitable for them.

This technically makes sense - but my only concern is that not for only WICB, but other weak financial nations like NZ/SRI/PAK/BANG (SA to a lesser extent since they are the best team in the world) - are they 100% sure that the AUS/ENG/IND (especially the corrupt Indian's) can be trusted to play them?.

After all without the FTP, its up the AUS/ENG/IND discretion to play the other countries, under this weird dynamic that cricket will now cosigned to.

No surprise there...Afro doing the cheer-leading for the WICB!
During his speech, Cameron kept saying about how the Windies were ranked seventh, and that we won't ever be in tenth place, and in danger of relegation.

Well, we're now eighth, as our slide continues....
Here's an article from the press conference:

“We want to have core groups of players regionally (outside of the West Indies team) who will be afforded the opportunity to be fully professional cricketers. We want to have professional setups like there are overseas in county cricket, state cricket and franchise cricket. “We want to have professional setups where we have full-time staff who are supporting full time players and that is the ultimate goal. And all that is going to allow us to do over the next three years is to actually get the West Indies on a level playing field with the top sides in the world,” Pybus explained. “That is not going to make us the best side in the world. If we were running a race it will be like us catching up to the top sides in the world. That is a key priority for us, to actually get to the starting line so we can run an equal race,” he added. The director of cricket added that regional players need to play more games and that there must be a clear pathway to move from regional to international cricket. “We want to have a clear avenue for players who are playing first-class cricket to go on to play international cricket,” said Pybus. “First-class cricket is not the finishing school for international cricket. Our players need to be learning and growing their game so by the time they get to the international setup, they will be up to the fitness standard, the skill set and they understand what being professional is."

It's funny how the WICB has to call in foreigners to implement what some of us have been saying should be done here for years.

WICB media conference audio | Trinidad & Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – President of the West Indies Cricket Board Whycliffe “Dave” Cameron, Vice President Emmanuel Nanthan, Chief Executive Officer Michael Muirhead and Director of Cricket Richard Pybus spoke at a media conference today at the Hyatt Regency here.

They addressed a number of issues affecting the game in the Caribbean including:

1. The recent changes in the governance structure of the International Cricket Council,

2. A recent review of the West Indies team’s performance last year and goals for the side for the coming year, and

3. Conclusion of the NAGICO Super50 Tournament last Saturday at Queen’s Park Oval here.

Yes, Afro, this WICB is moving forward...when have I heard that before?
I might be Jamaican, but that doesn't mean I don't recognise a Samfie when I see one. Afro, given your tenuous Caribbean roots, you probably don't know what a Samfie is, so don't be embarrassed to ask me to explain what a Samfie is.

"As the West Indies team continues to regain strength, the WICB will be able to negotiate more for our brand, which is a most significant consideration. Also, where the WICB hosts unprofitable tours, we will now be able to access the newly proposed Test Match Fund to help offset costs. We can inform you now that the WICB has already secured commitments from the major boards to play an increased number of matches and series during the next eight-year cycle."

1) It seems that Dave's plans to earn more revenue is conditional on our team "regaining strength". Newsflash, Dave - that's not guaranteed!

2) How much money is in the "newly proposed" Test Match Fund?

3) Exactly what commitments have been received from the "major boards", and how many of these commitments are different from what was already in the FTP that Dave is happy to see ended?

The "charismatic" Super Dave is very selective about which journalists he speaks to, and who are invited to his press conference....

No hard questions, please....

“We have done well in the shorter formats such as the T20 but not so well in the Test arena. What we need to do to take us to the next level in cricket is to set up professional structures, and that is what we are moving towards. I will be able to say more on this issue following the board’s [annual general meeting] in Trinidad and Tobago,” he said. Speaking at Kensington Oval at the end of the successful T20 series between West Indies and England, Cameron said it was important the West Indies improve their profile and stature in Test cricket. “We in the board certainly believe that our value in cricket is based on our Test status and so while we enjoy the Twenty20 because it brings revenue, and new audiences to the game, we are still focused on being the best Test team. If the West Indies can be a force again in the Test arena, I would feel that strides have been made under my tenure. The plan is clearly to get us back to the top, not just the top three, but number one.”

The board meeting is next week, so hopefully we will hear something by next week Friday on this....

WICB still very secretive and the Windies media at times don't hit them hard enough. I'd love to be in press conference with Pressy Cameron - never got the chance as yet, I would ask some hard questions.

He's must be quite slick if he's not been quizzed on this yet, slicker than the last chap at least.

Placing a layer of WI legends between himself and public scrutiny was very smart as it guarantees an increase in positive sentiment, but adding a further layer by hiring a white overseer shows him to be expert in the manipulation of the varied national proclivities, very slick.

This man will go far.
