Azim Bassarath, president of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), yesterday hailed the appointment of Manohar Ramsaran as the new TTCB administrative manager.

“He’s the former Minister of Sport and has been associated with cricket for quite some time. Having served in the highest capacity in local sport, if he can manage an entire Ministry then he can manage our affairs too,” he said.

The TTCB boss is confident Ramsaran, who was also an administrator at Monroe Road Cricket Club, will do an excellent job as he has a passion for the sport.

And if he was a dismal failure as Minister of Sport, what then?

Warner, Manohar support ‘Friends of Cricket’ - It’s now or never

BY NAZ YACOOB

FIFA vice-president Austin Jack Warner has urged voters in the upcoming T&T Cricket Board’s elections, to support the “Friends of Cricket” if the sport is to survive in this country.

The incumbents are being challenged by the Deryck Murray-led “Friends of Cricket” for control of the T&TCB for the next two years.

Murray will come up against Dudnath Ramkessoon for position of president.

Contacted in Zurich yesterday, Warner said that the “Friends of Cricket,” with its formidable team of administrators, is the right choice to lift the sport out of the doldrum.

“If cricket wants to lift itself out of the present morass in which it is at the moment, it will be doing the sensible thing by backing Deryck Murray and his ‘Friends of Cricket’ for cricket’s survival; it is either now or never,” Warner said.

Former Sport Minister Manohar Ramsaran said former West Indies Test wicket-keeper Deryck Murray is the answer to the cricket woes now plaguing the country.

The former national youth off-spinner was speaking ahead of Saturday’s annual general meeting of the T&T Cricket Board, at which officers for the 2005 to 2007 term will be elected.

Ramsaran said that when you look at the national team’s performances in the recently-concluded KFC Cup series in Barbados, it was really pathetic.

Ramsaran, head of the Joe Public Munroe Road Sports Club in Cunupia, said that up to this day, no word has been heard of the so-called investigation into the national team’s poor display.

“Change is very necessary and new thinking and policies should be injected into the board. With this and much more that I could say. I support the “Friends of Cricket” in the upcoming elections. It is the only vehicle with the vision to take cricket out of the gutter and back to the top,” Ramsaran said.

Ramsaran is urging all 45 eligible electors to put cricket before self and support the “Friends of Cricket.”

Sports Minister Ramsaran backs the WICB

The Trinidad Express

The Honourable Minister of Sports Manohar Ramsaran yesterday backed the West Indies Cricket Board's decision to sack West Indies team captain and vice-captain Brian Lara and Carl Hooper respectively.

Both were relieved of their posts for the tour of South Africa for disobeying a directive from the WICB to proceed directly to South Africa.

Instead of going on to Johannesburg as directed, Lara and Hooper travelled to London with a view to negotiating with the WICB about wages for the South Africa tour.

Ramsaran told CCN that the decision by the pair was "blackmail" and a poor example to "younger sportsmen and even the countries of the West Indies".

"Despite the personalities involved," Ramsaran said. "I think the board made the right decision... I think that a message must be sent. We must understand who we are and when we have our talents we must use it intelligently.

"... The West Indies Cricket Board should be congratulated for being so strict on this issue."

Truetrini,

Thanks for the info...good stuff. So Ramsaran endorsed Murray in 2005 and now serving in the admin that defeated him. What changed?
