Chris Gayle: Getting a bit of cramps, but feeling a bit tired. We still have 50 overs to get through. I didn't want to be out with the first ball. I said "you can't be serious?" I just want to thank god for this knock. I was under pressure to score runs, and I kept getting messages from twitter and on my cell phone. I have never felt this kind of pressure, but in the end, I am sure I gave them something to talk about. It was a bit slow at the start, not to mention keeping it low. I just tried to take the bull by the horns and hang out there and try and build an innings. After a while I was able to pick a bowler to target and then, in the end, I was out off the last ball (chuckles). A lot of time people don't know what you are going through as I had some issues with injuries. I am also not getting any younger so age is definitely catching up on me. Overall I am really happy, and I just want to try and build on this as much as possible. Want to build on this momentum and move ahead as we look towards the South Africa game. It was a bit easier to bat later on. I am very happy to get this first double hundred and ever since Rohit got two, I have been hounded to get one as well.

"With the innings, I struggled at the start and it was scary the first ball. I was like 'come on you're not serious, I can't be out on this first ball'. I needed a chance and got a break and made the best use of it.

Gayle's innings was almost ended by the very first ball he faced. He was hit on the front leg in front of his stumps by a sharp delivery from Zimbabwean paceman Tinashe Panyangara.
The on-field umpire turned down Panyangara's lbw appeal and, despite a review showing the ball would have clipped the top of the bails, the original decision stood.

Because not enough of the ball was hitting the stump according to the hawkeye projection.

ICC Cricket World Cup, 19th Match, Pool B: South Africa v West Indies at Sydney, Feb 27, 2015

Weather permitting, Chris Gayle (fresh from his record setting feat against Zimbabwe) and his West Indies team mates will take to the field in the Australian city of Sydney to do battle with South Africa. While on a emotional level the two teams are on completely different trajectories in this Word Cup, the South Africans have easily had the better of the recent 50-over games the teams have played against each other.

The Proteas are coming off a tough loss to India, the manner of which will see them seeking to quash any accusation that they be 'chokers' come crunch time on the world stage during international competition. Conversely, the West Indies are buoyed by two victories after an embarrassing defeat to Ireland in their first game.

So this sets a scene for the game in the real world of cricket.

However, this forum poster recalls a clumsy headline coined during one of the season's that Gayle participated in the Australian T20 Big Bash League while playing for the the City's franchise team. Back then, amidst rampant hype, Chris was having a lean time of things with the bat innings after innings prompting the phrase, "See'd nay thunder" to describe what was to all intents and purposes a Gayle no-show during the competition.

Fast forward to the present it might be that I have to resurrect the term on account of the weather in Sydney. It is raining. However, being ever the quizzical optimist I will set my stall out and wonder, insofar as Gayle with bat in hand is concerned, if tomorrow we will look back and say "We see'd nay thunder at all from him"

We will see .... or we wont.
