"Tracey made no bones about asserting herself as she opened up a wide gap over second place to post a new record 55.81 seconds to win the 400m hurdles open, bettering the 56.55-second mark set by Melaine Walker in 2001 and improving on the silver medal she won last year when she lost to her sister Nikita. Vere Technical's Olivia James ran 59.01 for second with Holmwood's Janieve Russell third in 59.06."

Jamaica College surprised pre-season favourites Kingston College to win Boys Champs, while defending champs Holmwood edged Edwin Allen for Girls Champs....

Some great results all over in all 4 classes but of particular note are:

Travis Smickle SHATTERING Jamaica's Junior Record in the discuss 66.88 making him the 3rd best thrower in Junior History. He is only bettered by Ukraine's Mykyta Nesterenko, who did 70.13 (world record) and 69.38, along with Margus Hunt of Estonia (67.32).

Ristananna Tracey from Edwin Allen did a SUPERB triple! 400m 52.38s won by almost 3 seconds 55.26 by Bennett of Manchester High. She also ran the 800m in 2:05.95 winning by about 4 seconds 2:09.01 from team mate Monteque. And the most startling of her 3 results... a world leading 55.81 in the 400mH winning shattering the previous record held by current World and Olympic Champion Melanie Walker! All three results are PB's.

Arguably the best 400m junior out there still 16 and still very much a youth athlete. The Holmwood girl's star athlete Chris-Ann Gordon shattered the former champs record in the 400m Class 2 girls final and also ran the fastest 400m girls time for the entire championships 51.62, the old record formerly held by Sonita Sutherland at 52.41. This is her first year in Class 2 and should have one more year left to stamp her authority in it. She also came 2nd in the 800m finals in 2:13.01 which was after being spiked and almost bumped off the track with about 200m to go and almost limping the rest of the way to finish in 2nd.

Those are just some of the highlighted athletes although I can go on and on... The sub-40 4x100 team from Munro boys.... the 45.83 4x100 Class 3 (13-15 year olds) girls team.... the likes of Ohara with the 100/100mH double in C3 boys, Helps with 100/200 double in C3 girls, Brown 100/200/70mH triple gold in C4 girls....

The results speaks for themselves. A downright spectacular championships on both a performance level and a competition level. The title was undecided for both the boys and the girls up until the last race... the 4x400m.

"A number of top World Championships and Olympic Games stars are expected to be on show at the fourth staging of the University of Technology (UTech) Track and Field Classic slated for Saturday, April 16 at the National Stadium. With UTech being the home of the Maximum Velocity Performance (MVP) club, athletes such as former world 100m record-holder Asafa Powell and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the World and Olympic 100m champion are expected to compete."

Quite a few stars are lined up to take part in the Jamaica Invitational on May 7....

"Among those confirmed for the meet are Jamaica's Olympic and World 100-metre champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, double Olympic 200-metre champion and the fastest woman in the world over 100 metres last year, Veronica Campbell-Brown, World and Olympic 400 metres hurdles gold medallist Melaine Walker, 2007 and 2009 men's 400 metres hurdles World champion Kerron Clement of the United States, and his compatriots, Jamaica-born World 400-metre champion Sanya Richards, and Carmelita Jeter, a double bronze medallist over 100m at the World Championships and a best time of 10.64 over the short sprint."

"The women's 400m is expected to be one of the most exciting events on the programme. Richards will renew rivalry with Christine Ohuruogu of the United Kingdom, Jamaica's trio of Novlene Williams-Mills, Kaliese Spencer and Kenia Sinclair, and American Natasha Hastings. Jeter will face Jamaica's Olympic and World silver medallist Kerron Stewart in the women's 100m, along with Trinidad and Tobago's Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Sherone Simpson and American Marshervet Myers. Fraser-Pryce is down to compete in the women's 200m alongside Campbell-Brown, Shericka Williams, Bianca Knight of the United States and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of The Bahamas. In the men's 100m, last year's winner, American Darvis Patton, will be hard-pressed to repeat the feat as he will be challenged by Yohan Blake, Michael Frater, and Daniel Bailey. The men's 100m hurdles will feature Dwight Thomas, Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados and the American pair of Terrence Trammell and Antwon Hicks. Jermaine Gonzales will feature in the men's 400m along with countryman Ricardo Chambers and (Tyson) Gay, if he competes."

Kaliese Spencer's time is the second fastest of the year, I believe, in the 400 flat, which is more impressive when you remember that she's really a 400 hurdler....

Nesta Carter had to settle for fourth in the men's 200, in a time of 20.67.
