As I post this i see that I am the only one on the forum - pretty fitting really. Well some of you may have already gleaned that howzdat is a fan of sport in general, seeing it as one of those human activities through which we see the very best of humankind's capability as well as the other darker side. Which together serves to make it the compelling spectacle that it is.
Within the last hour the death has been announced of Gary Speed and I am shocked and deeply saddened. I send my condolences to his family and friends and I add the subtle vibration of positive thoughts to them as they go through this devastating time. I myself have lost my mum and dad within a period of a year - my father's passing coinciding with my time here on the site.
So as someone dealing with bereavement I also feel this as a follower of the Newcastle United football team, whom Gary played for during is career. RIP Gary Speed and thanks for the memories.
JAH Bless!!!

Is it?Talking to myself over here as usual...
The tour is not over yet and so there is time for the good, bad and the ugly sides of the team to be witnessed however the opposite is also the case...

Not only is cricket a treasure-trove for those with a ken for numbers and statistics but it also throws up some wonderful 'coincidences' insofar as names and name sequences are concerned.
The one that I borrowed for the title of this post is perhaps the most famous of them all as uttered by the late Brian Johnston aka Johnners, renowned cricket commentator and presenter of radio shows.
Today, whilst reviewing the scorecard in the game between New Zealand & Australia I noticed the following: PJ Hughes c Guptill b Martin. This "caught my eye" because the catcher's full name is ... Martin Guptill. Admittedly, it will never draw the laughs that the sequence used to title this post always elicits when played on the radio, however it does show that cricket and perhaps sport in general can be a treasure store for those fond of word-play.

Damn, for the second Sunday running my time sitting at the pc contributing to the forum has coincided with breaking news that a renowned sporting hero has died - again from the world of soccer. Today it is Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira M.D more commonly simply known as Socrates, the Brazillian football legend!
R.I.P Socrates and I offer my condolences to all family members that survive you.

What is the point posting anything about Sammy! I never expected WI indies to beat India but as a sign of forward progress I hoped that given some of the match situations that WI got themselves into we would have witnessed the ability to capitalise on those glimmers of hope and make a much better fist of things.
Personally, I find this inability to be one of the most disappointing aspects of the India leg of the tour. And so as a cricket-loving supporter of the WI I have been reduced to cheering on those whose who appear to be making forward progress in spite of all that is going on in WI cricket on and off the field. And no, I make no apology for being an admirer of Russell ahead of Sammy in spite of his (Russell's) inexperience on the full international stage!
And yes, if any of the current the players read this site I want them to feel within my words the compelling desire for those who are ready to step up to the plate and show the world that we so-called caribbeans are gifted at this game and when we get our act together and play it like it oughyt to - there aint nothing better.
So come on mighty warriors, rise oh, rise oh, rise oh and take your stand again! The wole world is waiting for the brand of cricket that only you can play! Jah Rastafari! Let dem know seh dat we dread!
