so again my argument...why has Gibson not been looking for great pace in the region that has traditionally produced the fastest, most hostile and effective fast bowlers in the history of the game?
is Gibson a fool, a mentally competent fellow, stupid and uneducated in his own history and that of the game...or is he purpose, doing his job in a manner that consciously destroys west indies chances

mister please assume that I am aware of all that..far, far more than you are. Also mappy needs to try and understand that CONDITIONS is what plays a part in whether a pacer or spinner will be the match winner!!..England went to India and beat them rass and who were the stars? Broad? NO, Anderson? NO...it was SWANN AND MONTY!!..two SPINNERS!!.
during west indies championship years no surface stopped west indian pace. none, nada..all over the world. curators did what they could it made no difference. that was because of the quality of the pace west indies had.
Malcolm Marshall could actually spin the ball at some pace. had Malcolm wanted to be a spinner he likely would have been very successful at it.
and garner and dem did not know how to reverse swing. if they had teams would have been making fifty against west indies consistently.
it helps to have good spin and spin can be decisive in conditions which suit it but not always. west indian spin is the most notorious spin in history for failing to make use of conditons in which shytehouds like Hirwani thrived in.
but speed, quality pace tends to transcend conditions. making conditions moot. spin does not do that save it is of near divine quality... like Gibbs, Murali and Warne.
that is why pace over the history of the game has always been decisive, winning..and not spin save in unique spots

I too do wonder.Gils did not wrote:But ..but ..... but observe Gibson ... press pace of Roach on this tour.
IMOHe values pace above control.
As I remember, he had good control and could swing the ball as a player but this policy may stem from of his major shortcoming, lack of pace. The lack of which kept him out of the team.
Without the critical thought of a top coach, he may simply be equating pace with excellence.
Foolish or sabotage, the first one.

I too do wonder.
It was the nature of the inquiry that led me too arrive at this conclusion.
I agree the footage of Johnson is a perfect example of hostile fast bowling, but neither the raw pace or the accuracy can be coached. Even the intent of the bowler, the other vital ingredient, is beyond coaching manuals.
I could see Tino Best, for example, studying this footage in depth and learning little, he has the mean intentions but....

good thinking Gils...you see quite straight don't ya!
thats it with Tino Best...he does not have the intangibles that make the very tools he has, devastating in another person and and not even mediocre in him
and absolutely ...that cant be coached in a player...a fast bowler.
Best is a more effective clown than bowler. he has the quality to make people laff at him. he is very effective in that.
Best is in the wrong wuk... Best. he should be out there with Square Pants and Sponge Bob..Dora the Explorer and so on...

Best can study as much as he wants it will make no difference. the problem is in the mans head, his personality.
I saw Best open the bowling fus' test against India, spraying the ball all over. Best is 32 years old or close. I am angry at his inability to keep a straight line at 32 years of age. best bowled like a kind in high schooler who has been exposed to little in his life and consequently knows little.
Best is twice that now, has toured with the west indies, rubbed shoulders with lots of players, other fast bowlers... and here he has a new ball and makes the batsman play wat, once in his first 6 balls.. a handful of times in 3 overs..so bad his captain takes him off immediately.
that means that between 16 and 32 Best has not learned a single thing about bowling the ball.
look I have known that for a long time about Best. Best is a waste of time, pointless to keep selecting him. there is no value to him on the side at all. I don't know what to say again....
I cant imagine that Gibson does not see this, the true state of affairs with a player like Best.
DO YOU ALL REALIZE THE MONUMENTAL MENTAL INCOMPETENCE IT TAKES IN A HEAD COACH, A PROFESSIONAL, QUALIFIED... IF HE DOES NOT SEE AND UNDERSTAND A PLAYER LIKE BEST
I MEAN LIKE THAT IS THE MOST AWFUL TECHNICAL INCOMPETENCE IMAGINABLE. PEOPLE HAVE LOST JOBS ON LESS THAN THAT.
AND I WOULD WAGER NOT A FEW HAVE BEEN COMMITTED TO MENTAL ASYLUMS ON THE PERCEPTION OF GIBSONS LEVEL ON BEST, AS THEIR NORMAL MODE OF CONSCIOUSNESS[size=]
You cant run a business on that. which is why west indies cricket is failing under Gibson...things are worse than ever.
it takes a whole lot for Gibson to be as naturally foolish as this. I want to chose foolish but it is very, very hard to choose foolish. no man who operates where Gibson operates is that foolish.
it is easier to choose sabotage...much easier than mental incompetence.
anyway both sabotage and the mental incompetence required are equally disastrous to west indies chances

I can't blame either him or the coach for that. The Selection panel and Coach have to take full responsibility for his selection though.
Some time ago you questioned why he hadn't integrated a single fast bowler into the starting line up since his arrival.
Probably for the same reason Barath, Brathwiate, Bishoo and Russell were not persisted with.
Short term planning with the emphasis on results and job security, * I wont say he's a user.
* sentiments of one player presently in the squad and two others not included.

well GILS ....my contention is dat Gibson calls the shots when it comes to selection....
it is also my contention that Skameron entered the selection fray this time around as boss, insisting on a few picks of his own that have resulted in Cottrell and Walton on the side.
it is my contention that Best is a GIBSON PIK and not a pik of the selection panel as such. Gibson insists on Best and that is why he is on the side.
that is why I always speak of best as I do..as if he is Gibsons responsibility. no one has corrected me as yet and I don't think they can
