He was also president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) until 2011.

After he resigned, Fifa dropped its inquiry into whether he was involved in any corruption.
Mr Warner returned to Trinidad and Tobago, where he became minister of security.

He resigned from the post in 2013 when a Concacaf ethics panel accused him of enriching himself through fraud during his time with the football body.

There was something that rattled my cage a bit about the way that some folks were carrying on about Shiv and his limping ascent to becoming the highest scoring West Indian batsman. But what I knew for certain is that I couldn't side with the ones who were going on like its his inalienable right. No way! But nothing personal...is just how i stay.

Shiv has no divine right to be west indies leading run scorer and to keep picking him solely so he could pass a certain number aint my bag and so on the strength of his performances I thought it best to drop him ... but in hindsight he could have announced his pending retirement.

Instead we have a mealy-mouthed 'rationale' penned by Lloyd who is proving to be a clone of all the other administrative jerks we have had. But they will say, howzdat we only done what you called for so shut up and suck it up.

But I never called for an undignified dismissal devoid of any trace of integrity ... but they won't hear that or even care because they have the power. Ah well.

Is Ramdin next aint it? Already I dreading the wake of every west indies team victory from now onwards.

I probably gonna be dodging snipers bullets from now till I announce my retirement from the forum for what i am about to say but to use the word distress in this context, and from the quarter it comes, doesn't surprise me ... NO not one bit.

Might we hear next that .... actually pon serious consideration i better not wonder that one .... but it just might be safe to ask if the government minister deh pon standby with placatory statements should this distress develop into mass hyteria .... in some quarters.

After all is only public-spirited of an a$$ like me to wonder if dem wot distressed gonna be equally so if some sort of variation on Guy Fawkes Night type incidents are to follow-on in the wake of this 'wholly unjust and unfounded declaration' .. I mean disaster of a cricketer not being selected to play in a match.

Watson (ranked 59) was hoping to become the first British woman through to round two but made a disastrous start on court 12 against Caroline Garcia (ranked 33).

The 23-year-old from Guernsey struggled badly on serve in the first set and was given a warning by the umpire after throwing her racquet when she was broken for the second time. But Watson's belief returned at the start of the second set when she improved the quality and velocity of her delivery and also made inroads into Garcia's serve for the first time.

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have been ordered to pay $7.3 million dollars in damages to Marvin Gaye’s estate after losing a copyright infringement trial. A jury has found the music duo guilty of copying Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up” for their 2013 smash hit “Blurred Lines”.

The verdict was handed down by an eight-person jury following a week-long trial. The ruling comes after nearly two years of legal drama, including Thicke’s last-ditch efforts to pin the blame on Williams. During the proceedings, Thicke sang a selection of songs by the likes of U2, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson from the witness stand to illustrate how tracks could have similar chord progressions and yet still sound different. To counter those claims, prosecutors brought up numerous interviews in which Thicke and Williams mention Gaye directly, including several where Thicke specifically cited “Got to Give It Up” and Williams claimed he was “trying to pretend” he was the Motown legend as he wrote the track.

For his part, Williams was asked to perform the bass line from both songs during the trial, after which he admitted there was a similarity when played side-by-side. Still, Williams attempted to argue that the songs shared “vibe”, and that “Blurred Lines” was not a direct copy. “The last thing you want to do as a creator is take something of someone else’s when you love him,” he was quoted as saying.

The jury clearly disagreed. T.I. and Star Trak/Interscope records were found harmless, and will not be part of the $7.3 million payment.

A judge has trimmed more than $1m (£639,000) from the damages Pharrell Williams was ordered to pay after the Blurred Lines copyright trial.
The case revolved around the question of whether Williams and his co-writer Robin Thicke had copied Marvin Gaye's 1977 hit Got To Give It Up...in March, a jury ruled that they had, and awarded Gaye's family $7.3m in damages.But US District Judge John A Kronstadt has now slashed that to $5.3m...

Richard Barklie, William Simpson & Joshua Parsons are challenging football banning orders

A former policeman has admitted pushing a black man off a Paris Metro train but said the man started the altercation, a court has heard.
Richard Barklie, from Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland, is one of four Chelsea fans facing a football banning order over a confrontation filmed ahead of a Champions League game in February.
Footage of the alleged incident showed several fans chanting: "We're racist and that's the way we like it."
Mr Barklie, 50, denies any wrongdoing.
'Skin colour'
He told Stratford Magistrates' Court he pushed Souleymane Sylla because there was no room in the train carriage, adding: "Mr Sylla, and it's my view, was the only one using aggression".
When asked by his defence barrister, Nick Scott, if "there was any issue in relation to the colour of his skin", Mr Barklie replied "none whatsoever".
Mr Barklie served as an officer with the Royal Ulster Constabulary and as a director with the World Human Rights Forum.
In addition to Mr Barklie, of Victoria Street in Carrickfergus, three others are challenging the ban: Jordan Munday, 20, of Ellenborough Road, Sidcup, south-east London; Josh Parsons, 20, of Woodhouse Place, Dorking, Surrey; and William Simpson, 26, of Hengrove Crescent in Ashford, Surrey.
The court heard Mr Munday, who is also accused of being involved in the incident, said there was enough space for him to force himself through the carriage and see the aftermath.
However he claimed he did not see the incident and had not been chanting "John Terry is a racist and that's the way we like it, ooh ooh ooh".
'Fronting up'
Adam Clemens, representing the Met Police, said: "At the end of the ooh ooh ooh your mouth was moving and it closes at the end."
Mr Munday told the court: "There was movement - I was breathing. I have to breathe."
Both Mr Munday and Mr Barklie were in a group of about 150 Chelsea fans walking through Paris on their way to the match.
Video footage appeared to show Mr Munday "fronting up" to a black man and shoving him twice, but Mr Munday claimed he had been stalked by the man and felt threatened.
A fifth man, Dean Callis, 32, of Liverpool Road in Islington, north London, earlier received a five year banning order for his role in Paris and other incidents involving violence.
The case continues

Four Chelsea fans accused of refusing to allow a black man on to the Paris Metro have been banned from attending football matches for up to five years. Richard Barklie, from Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, and Joshua Parsons and William Simpson, both from Surrey, were banned for five years at Stratford Magistrates' Court. Jordan Munday from Sidcup in Kent was banned for three years.They were told they could not attend games at home or abroad. District Judge Gareth Branston said: "Racist hatred was displayed by Chelsea fans on the Paris Metro that evening."

He told the court the incident had "tarnished the reputation of English football in Europe".
