Unfortunately, in my opinion, Darren Bravo's batsmanship shows poor judgement and a lack of intelligence. Sadly at test level both of these deficiencies will make him an easy victim for bowlers at test level. Neither does he yet seem to have the necessary grit to knuckle down and battle through the tough parts of an innings.
As for a comparison between these two young test batsmen is concerned, it may be too soon to draw conclusions so we will have to watch and see. One difference though relates to the difference between the West Indies and India team setup's is that Kohli has the benefit of playing alongside a couple of experienced AND successful batsmen at test level. We will see how their respective careers develop. As things stand Darren has played 5 more tests than Virat, but at the rate he (Darren) is going he may soon find himself occupying a spot on the bench!

Darren has had to face India and Pak at home on spinning wickets and then played SRi-lanka away and faced Mendis and co, and still he's avaraged a 50 every two innings, so writing him off at this early stage is rather frivolous imo, especially as the likes of Shiv didn't get a ton for ages when he first started, Darren has had his ups and downs, that's only normal for a kid starting his career, once he finally settles down i expect big things from him because he has the talent to be as good as anyone.howzdat wrote:Unfortunately, in my opinion, Darren Bravo's batsmanship shows poor judgement and a lack of inteligence. Me "writing him off"? No, I wasn't doing that but i was stating what i see to be flaws in his batsmanship. Yes, I would indeed be foolish to assume that what i see as flaws can not be rectified. I agree that he has talent, however talent without common sense can prove wasteful. Right now Bravo is not contributing and WI need contributors now.
The other constructive point I made was with regards to the senior players around him in the team a factor which can help a young player settle into international cricket. In Chanderpaul's first test he batted alongside Haynes, Richardson, Lara, Arthurton and Adams.

Afro, stop being a dunce!!! not because people says Kohli seems to be better means they are writing off lil Bravo. It is much harder for Bravo because he has much more burden placed on his shoulders! The pressure seems to be getting to him.
go sit in the back of the class...you wear that hat really well! duncy!

Furthermore Darren stood up and got decent scores in both of the last two Test series while Sars and Nash didn't, so if anything is "getting to him" then lord knows what's getting to your husband Sars!! .

Difficult to compare the two at this point.
Kohli is still yet to really establish himself a regular test match place in the middle-order for India. The experienced vets of Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman still occupy those spots at this present time. But you can see from Kohli's style and technique, that he's going to be a good allround batsman, in all formats. He just needs to get a good run in the (test match) eleven to have the chance to show it. His only opportunity was in the Caribbean, but it's difficult to judge on one series away from home.
Darren Bravo on the other hand is at the stage where the selectors have him as a regular in the WI team. I still can't get over how much he bats like Lara, whether he can get anywhere near the success of BCL remains to be seen. I think we can all agree that the potential is there, the next step for him is converting some of those starts he's getting into three figures. So abit more patience and defensive discipline needs to be added into Darren's batting.
It's a good thing we're comparing them as batsmen, because Darren's abit of a donkey in the field. It amazes me that you can have a older brother like Dwayne, who in my opinion is one of the best fielders in World Cricket and Darren couldn't catch a cold, as well as getting nutmegged on a few occasions.
