Testing, testing 1 2 3, Mic check, Mic check....
Hello Marcus and welcome to this mad topic. It is well known around here that the poster knowing itself as howzdat hasn't a clue about cricket or for that matter a jot about West Indies opening batsmen of real substance. You know what I mean? The dependable sort that you might not quibble too much about emptying your trouser pockets dem by way of having faith that they will do a darned good job looking after your brass. So howzdat for sure can't answer that pertinent question that you have asked.
By the way I read somewhere words to the effect that a one-eyed man is King in a land where everybody is blind.
Anyway there are more games yet to be played and then there is the World Cup.....
SNAFU in West Indies cricket.
Chris Gayle, living it large, scoring how many?

It goes without saying datz how i have been disappointed with Chris's overall impact on the team performance, however in the context of the team conceding over 700 runs in two odi games it would have taken a herculean effort to come out on the winning side.
Chris came into this series on the back of 2 t20 games in which he accumulated 167 with a top score of 90; so he fifted twice. Being the team's highest scorer it might be said he went into the 50 over series in form. In the 50 over series thus far after 2 games he has made 60 with a high score of 41.
So being a simple sort I am gonna regard any score less than 131 as failure
Chris Gayle, always living it large, scoring how many today?
We will see

West Indies tour of South Africa, 3rd ODI: South Africa v West Indies at East London, Jan 21, 2015
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat. Smith to face the opening over, from which 5 runs are scored including a single off the last ball. Gayle still to face a ball. Why is this? Isn't Chris the senior opener? End of second over and Chris hasn't face a ball yet. He will now though and gets off the mark with a single.
Please don't pull a hamstring 3 overs gone and Chris striking at a rate of 100! (1 run off 1 ball)
Chris Gayle, always living it large, scored a single today. And so according to the regard of a simple poster it's a Chris Fayle day

Morkel to Gayle, 1 run, back of a length around off stump, Gayle up on his toes to drop this into the covers and they take a sharp single

Fall of wicket 6/2 (3.4 ov); Partnership: 1 runs, 2.3 overs, RR: 0.40 (Gayle 1, Deonarine 0)3.1 Philander to Gayle, no run, foot wide of off stump, Gayle forward shouldering arms
3.2 Philander to Gayle, no run, tighter line, blocked back to the bowler
3.3 Philander to Gayle, no run, length on a straighter line, punched from the crease back to the bowler
3.4 Philander to Gayle, OUT, fuller and touch wider, Gayle tries to drive this and nicks it behind! Loose drive from Gayle, beaten by a bit of away movement and it's a thin edge through to de Villiers.

"WEST Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Dave Cameron said Wednesday that Chris Gayle’s public criticism of the omissions of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from the squad to next month’s World Cup has been referred to its Disciplinary Tribunal. Cameron revealed during a wide-ranging interview on Sportsmax, the cable tv sports channel out of Jamaica, that Gayle had breached the code of conduct clause in the tour contract by his comments. But he did not know whether Tribunal chairman Justice Adrian Saunders, 61, a Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) judge from St.Vincent and the Grenadines, had yet summoned a meeting to deal with the case."

Cameron speaking to my friend Simon Crosskill....
If Cameron pursues this, expect a Gayle retirement from Test cricket, or West Indies cricket generally, just before the IPL.

For the record: West Indies won by 1 wicket (with 9 balls remaining)6.1 51.3 mph, and it's worked first ball! What a call from de Villiers. Pretty shocking stroke, mind. It's floated up outside off, smartly tempting Gayle, he comes forward to drive but is reaching for the ball and just ends up presenting a catch to cover, neat catch above the head 12/2

David Gower scored 8231 test runs; Chris Gayle has 7214 at an average of 42.18 with 15 hundreds. While I stuck my neck out and opined that Chris is unlikely to get those 1017 runs by the end of his career, I wonder how others rate his chances of scoring the 5 hundreds required.howzdat did not wrote:... With regards to some of the factors that figure in my personal overall assessment of Chris Gayle as a cricketer (his past performances and likely legacy) I feel vindicated when I read two particular comments attributed to him in the article entitled Chris Gayle eyes Test win on Aussie soil"I've got 14 Test hundreds at the moment, and I'd like to finish with 20 Test hundreds.I will add nothing more but to say that in my humble opinion, benchmarks of 20 test hundreds and an average of 45, do not a great player make. Oh, and lest I be accused of double standards I confess that it has NOT escaped me that were he to accomplish both of those he would have bettered the records of the aforementioned David Gower."And if I can finish with an average of 45, that's pretty decent for an opener."
A pity Gayle was not asked to surmise on his 'if' test aggregate score at the end of his career!
It's all about opinions folks and those them words convey some of mine re: The Don
All the best Chris and may your dreams be realised; some ambition is better than none at all.

West Indies tour of South Africa, 5th ODI: South Africa v West Indies at Centurion, Jan 28, 2015
3.45pm West Indies have won the toss and will bowl. One change for them: Deonarine comes in for Johnson who has a sore neck.
West Indies Team
DR Smith, CH Gayle, N Deonarine, MN Samuels, D Ramdin†, JL Carter, AD Russell, DJG Sammy, JO Holder*, CR Brathwaite, SS Cottrell
Allyuh can tell datz how am real excited to be able to follow this game from 'ball one' as the lingo goes nowadays. Btw you can read in another place how Johnson sore neck show me up bad, bad pon de selection side of things Was no way I see Deo getting a game. Ah well.
Anyway Chris, I waiting eagerly fuh see is what you going to serve up fuh we windians and windiannas today. Good look pardna - and it indeed look like you will have some serving to do because the Saffers are 154/2 after 28 of the 42 overs and went on to score 361/5.
A double century would be just what the doctor ordered, wouldn't it?
7.50pm It's time for West Indies to reply - out come Chris Gayle and Narsingh Deonarine, not Smith. Kyle Abbott to start the innings with to slips..
0.1 Abbott to Gayle, OUT, loud appeal, all South Africans go up for caught behind but the umpire calls it a wide as it went across from short of length outside off, there was a sound for sure. SA review straightaway! Replays say the ball is legitimate, and Snicko spots the edge went the ball crossed the bat. Gayle threw his bat at this wide delivery and only got an edge, what a start for South Africa
CH Gayle c †de Kock b Abbott 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00.
That was the laziest swipe at a ball that need not have been played at.
D for duck and dunce. Chris Gayle, living it large, scoring 0 today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris Gayle, living it large, scoring nothing ever so often nowadays. Confession: Truth is I have never, ever rated Chris Gayle as a human that applies his brain cell to batting, nor will I ever see reason to change my mind.
This topic has had thirteen thousand four hundred and fifty-nine views and even if i discount 3459 for my own vanity the remaining 10000 is 9999 more than medical science would be able to detect if Chris's skull were to be subjected to forensic examination that attempted to find a brain.
Chris Gayle is nothing more than a cow-swiper who may or may not come off, simple as that.
Chris Gayle, living it large, scoring 0 today. DROP HIM!

Gayle is 35, and needs to call it a day from ODIs after the World Cup...just focus on T20s from now on. After all, that's where the money and crowds are!
