Hello Dinas ,
I am dumbfounded by this move by WIPA board of Directors . Is there an explanation ?
WIPA announced recently it has increased its Board of Directors by three individuals .
With the new appointments, the board will now consist of the following individuals President ; Dinanath Ramnarine, Vice-President ; Wavell Hinds, Secretary ; Andrew Richardson, Assistant Secretary ; Samuel Badree and Treasurer ; Ramnaresh Sarwan, Derick Milton Latibeaudiere, Mr. Dave Kissoon, and Mr Michael Hall in overseeing the affairs of WIPA.
I decided to check the background of the new individuals this is what I came up with on the first one.
Mr Derick Milton Latibeaudiere
A former Governor of the Bank of Jamaica . Under his Administration the BOJ had a terse relationship with the Organize BOJ workers Union and is
known to have anti workers tendencies and a dismal record during collective bargaining and other payment issues.

In August 2008 information surfaced that Governor Latibeaudiere borrowed 51 million Jamaican dollars from the central bank to construct a house and furnish and landscape the grounds. The scandal began when it was brought to light that there was no evidence that the loan had been properly collaterised. The event has angered many Jamaicans who have grown tired of officials spending tax payers money to acquire personal assets.
BoJ orderd to pay former employees higher rates
THE INDUSTRIAL Disputes Tribunal (IDT) has ordered the Bank of Jamaica (BoJ) to pay two former employees at rates higher than they were paid when their positions were made redundant because of the positions in which they acted while employed by the Bank.
The two former employees, who were represented by the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU), are Vanessa Heath and Pat Steel.
According to a press release from the BITU on Friday, Mrs. Heath's redundancy payments were calculated at grade eight and Miss Steel's payments at grade nine. But the payments were calculated at lower grades than the positions in which the two were employed at the time of the redundancy in 1998.
The BITU protested against the calculations and brought the matter before the IDT for arbitration. In submissions to the Tribunal, BoJ lawyers contended that the Bank acted in accordance with the Employment (Termination and Redundancy Payments) Act and the Bank's redundancy provisions.
But in rejecting the BoJ's submissions, the Tribunal said there was a denial of equity and unfair treatment by the Bank. The IDT also ordered that Mrs. Heath should be compensated at a grade 10 level and Miss Steel at a grade 12 level.
The BITU has since written the BoJ demanding immediate payment to the workers.
The Tribunal panel consisted of Donovan Hunter, chairman; Neville Royes and Edward Dixon, members. The BITU said Mr. Royes did not sign the award.
The Bank was represented by attorneys-at-law Robin Sykes, Randolph Dandy and Melrose Stewart-Rhoden. The BITU was represented by its vice-president Dwight Nelson and negotiating officer Alden Brown.
.Why would the bank deny the workers equity and cause unfair treatment under his tenure yet he takes out a loan without the proper collateral
Another red flag
In a letter sent to BoJ Governor, Derick Latibeaudiere last week, Mr. Spencer said staff members were only made aware of a recent bomb threat after sections of the media reported on it.
"Although the Bank of Jamaica's management considered the threats serious enough to alert the police, to our amazement we learnt that at no time were the staff members or their representatives informed of such a threat. The BITU considers the behaviour of the management as insensitive and a flagrant disregard for workers safety," he charged in the letter.
A BoJ spokesperson told The Sunday Gleaner, however, that the installation of the system had nothing to do with any recent incident which has occurred at the downtown Kingston locale.
This reeks of very poor management practice by the BOJ Governor . It asks the questions why did he not intervene and correct such actions .
WIPA has now appointed him a Director , This is unbelievable. What was WIPA board Thinking . How can this individual represent the best interest of players . Has WIPA changed its agenda .
