Fall of the mighty Caribbean

How have the mighty fallen! That thought is uppermost in the minds of cricket followers world-wide who had been charmed by the magical exploits of the willow-wielders and the purveyors of pure pace from the Caribbean.

Tony Cozier, one of the finest commentators on both radio and TV, is presently in Sri Lanka working for Ten Sports. An authority on Cricket in the West Indies, he gives his views freely on the current state of cricket back home and if a resurrection is on the way.

Tony Cozier
Cozier points out that in the 1960s under Worrell and Sobers, the West Indians were unofficial world champions. Then Conrad Hunte, Wesley Hall, Charlie Griffith and Seymore Nurse made their exit around the same time. Between 1969 and 1973, the team played 33 Tests and did not win a single. The drought was broken in 1993, when they won the three Test series in England.

Stars such as Richards, Roberts and Greenidge were drafted in for the tour of India in 1974 under Clive Lloyd’s leadership. The inaugural World Cup was won in June 1975, but the West Indians were thrashed 1-5 by the Australians Down Under.

As for light at the end of the tunnel, Tony says an emphatic “No, not at all.” The Caribbean is short of leadership in politics, business and sports. He goes on to say that although Brendon Nash has good work ethic and as captaincy material, his unlikely to be given the reins because of his Australian background and the fact that he is white
allyuh see the provocative and propagandizing skunt Cozy the Pozy is! what is he up to here, spinning to prepare a way fuh equal skunt slansh to be appointed westindian captain?

who says that it is the colour of his skin that would prevent sknash from the captaincy?

as far as I know westindians doh think like dat at all..black and brown westindians love the white skin and hair, and wud love to be white themselves.

to my mind it would be totally impractical to give sknash the captaincy, because he is not westindian and cannot know the westindies and westindians s sufficiently well, to lead any collection of westindians anywhere and in anythng.

sknash can play for the westines as they have allowed him to. but to even make him vc is the heights of impracticality. and in additon skansh is 34 years already, way too late to learn much about the westindies in time... and he likely to bounced from the team soon as a better youngster bobs his head up.

already with the proof of lil Bravo and a return of Sarwan looming, batting selection starts to take on some difficulty. who to bounce if balance is to maintained in the side?

so it is purely a question of practicality with skansh as leader not skin tones.

as I see it the Pozy would be keen on skansh as westindian captain lurely because he is white. it is Cozy who is the racist, who is concerned with skin not westindians at all. and to point out the issue, to delineate it as Cozy does above, is to put westindians on the back foot in the issue, so that if, and when, the manpulations behind the scene that most certainly are taking place to get sknash in as captain succeeds, westindians would be forced to accept the damm nonsense decison.

the old Bajan fart Cozier simply wont give it up, with the days of Chellenor, Hoddard, Stollmeyer and Gomez etc., still dance liking sugar plums in his creaking mind. a tiger never changes his spots and old soldiers never die. Cozy the pozy cerainly does not seem like he will ver die, will always be here, aven after us, teasing out the situation, keen to restablish the white dominated colonised world he grew up in and clearly is so nostalgic for.

the problem is that the old colonised world so conditioned westindians that they too are nostalgic for white domination. certainly the wicb, cricket, which is still a westindian bastion of the old colonialism, a fortress of it in westindian life, battling the rest of the regional society that may contain impetus to move on.

old 70 year skunt Julian Hunte is nothing if he is not an old colonial fart like Cozy the Pozy, ill-winds that continue to blow in the region. I am sure if you get the old skunt, in Castries, with a drink in his hand, relaxed and his guard down, he will wax eloquently about the old days and the efficiency of the old colionial adminsitration in running the islands, as far superior to what westindians have done since independence.

thats how they all are those of Cozys age and social class. and those are the ones who the coterie old colonials who infest the wicb, always let in to run the organisation at Factory Road. if a westindian have any pretensions to the progressive have any desire to administer cricket in the westindies he better forget it because they wont let him in.

thats the ill-wind Cozier and his propaganda in the interest of sknash. skansh is the most backward step the wicb has made ever since the elevation of the blac and brown elite to power at the wicbc/wicb. allyuh be careful in allyuh support for skansh less allyuh find allyuh-self back in a colonised social state
