For the second year running, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) will incur significant financial losses in staging the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship, chief executive Ernest Hilaire has said.

According to the board's top official, next month's tournament in Antigua and Barbados will cost US$3 million to put on, but with no major sponsor on board, the WICB will be forced to absorb a large portion of the expenses.

Last July, the WICB also used its money to fund the inaugural tournament, which was a replacement for the now defunct Stanford Twenty20.

"The tournament will cost the WICB just about US$3 million to put on. We are paying just about US$500,000 in appearance and players fees alone. There is the cost for the television production, travel, hotels and other logistical costs," Hilaire told the WICB's official website.

"There are quite a few sponsors who want to be associated with CT20, but they still want to see that the tournament continues to be broadcast internationally and that it has commercial value before they put in a significant amount of money.

"We are hoping that this edition will make another major statement so that sponsors will want to be associated."

According to WICB website, "Antigua-Barbuda Tourism. Proud Sponsor of WICB Caribbean T20 2011". How much do you think they are paying the WICB?

Didn't the WICB get a cut from the Champions League for sending Guyana? :)

Well as I have been saying for quite sometime ,it seems that Digicel has the WICB in a Straight Jacket , that it so straight and tight that potential Sponsors are afraid to come forward . Now my belief is that a Real Business Entity would not allow its financial resources to be frittered away .

BECAUSE IT FAILED TO EXERCISE DUE CARE AND DILLIGENCE IN READING THE DIGICEL

CONTRACT BEFORE SIGNING IT . WORSE YET IT WAS THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT OF THE WICB

WHO SIGNED THE CONTRACT . ONLY HEAVEN KNOWS WHY THE CONTRACT COULD NOT BE

SIGNED BY THE INCOMING PRESIDENT . HELL HE AND HIS ADMINISTRATION HAVE TO NOW LIVE

WITH THE CONTRACT . SO MUCH FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE OF CRICKET IN THE REGION .

But then WE LIKE IT SO , Sadly there seems to be no One in the Media willing to tell the Emperors that they are stark naked . Most of us prefer to vent our anger on the Players , while ignoring the Colossal Blunders of the WICB .

Point, how long is this contract for and when will it end? Is it really a contract issue or WICB can't find sponsors?

Balloil ,

I have no idea when the current DIGICEL Contract expires . It seems however that the Case that went before the Privy Council , that involved , the WICB ; DIGICEL & Stanford , made it abundantly clear that DIGICEL has the WICB over a Barrel .

It is quite possible that potential Sponsors through their Legal Staff has gone through the findings of the Privy Council , and have come to the conclusion that it is not to their benefit to come forward as Sponsors .

As I have stated in this Forum or other Forums , It is one thing to castigate Players for being unable to Read & Write , it is quite another , for Captains of Industry , who WE expect can Read and Write , to seemingly sign a Contract without they or their Legal Staff exercising Due Diligence & Care in Reading the Digicel Contract . THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR THIS .

I could be wrong , but it seems to me that the Digicel Contract was signed very quickly by the outgoing President of the WICB . MY EXPECTATION WAS, AND IS , THAT THE CONTRACT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT TO THE INCOMING PRESIDENT , SINCE HE AND HIS ADMINISTRATION HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE CONTRACT .

I am of the opinion that not only the Outgoing President failed the Region , but The Presidents of ALL the Territorial Boards also failed the Region . As I stated either here or elsewhere , Digicel is akin to an Anaconda Snake that has the WICB in a deadly Grip .
