A maiden, and epic, Test century for Brian Lara turned into a crucial and commanding one, the first of nine against Australia. Wisden described his 277 in Sydney as an innings of "breathtaking quality" which turned a series that was slipping from West Indies. Richie Richardson, who scored a century of his own, later said: "I can hardly remember my hundred. It was difficult playing and being a spectator at the same time." At the close on the third day Lara had made 124.

For me, I like the 153 in Barbados...mabye I'm a bit bias since I was at the oval for the 5th day.

Bally, check out this write up by Coz on this magnificent inning! http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cric ... 77597.html

Rohan Kanhai, the former West Indies captain and now team coach, said it was 'one of the greatest innings I've ever seen. Back foot, front foot, timing, placement, against spin bowlers and fast bowlers alike, he was marvellous.'

and words of wisdom from the master coach!
After his innings he was quick to quote Kanhai's advice to him: 'Don't forget your next innings starts at zero. This one is over.'
