Manning fired Rowley from the Cabinet on April 23, 2008 after Rowley expressed concern over a lack of oversight over Udecott. Manning said he fired Rowley because of his “wajang behaviour.” Rowley’s dismissal started a chain of events which included the establishment of the Uff Commission of Inquiry into Udecott and the construction industry; the resignation of Udecott chairman Calder Hart and the laying of the Uff Inquiry’s report in the Senate last Tuesday.
Over the last two years, Rowley has been castigated inside of the Parliament by Manning and other Government ministers.
In last year’s Budget debate, Manning asked Rowley “where the money gone” with respect to an alleged $10 million discrepancy in the Cleaver Heights housing project, of which the Uff Commission cleared him in its Report.
“WE want Rowley! We want Rowley!” was the clear and resounding message which People’s National Movement (PNM) supporters from Diego Martin West sent to Prime Minister and PNM political leader Patrick Manning yesterday that Dr Keith Rowley is their only choice to be their candidate.
