Trinidad and Tobago will face Ireland tonight in a Twenty20 match from 8 p.m. at the Queen’s Park Oval, but Afghanistan will take no part in the practice series.

The Irish have been confirmed to play today, after arriving in Trinidad yesterday from the Jamaica Cricket Festival (JCA), which finished Sunday. In their final match, the Irish went down to unbeaten West Indies by 16 runs. Those two sides clash in a World Twenty20 opener on April 30 in Guyana.

Afghanistan and Ireland qualified for the World T20 via a qualifying tournament for the associate ICC nations, and the Afghans were due in T&T on Sunday to take play T&T in two practice matches ahead of the tournament. But while the Irish were already in the Caribbean for the JCA, Afghanistan were stuck in Europe after ash from an Icelandic volcanic eruption forced the cancellation of flights in Europe.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board selected a 14-man team to face the Irish today, including newcomer Yannic Cariah, who plays for Clico Preysal. Daren Ganga will skipper T&T, who will also have chinaman bowler Dave Mohammed in a line-up loaded with spin options, as well as the attacking opening pair of Lendl Simmons and William Perkins. Gibran Mohammed is the T&T wicketkeeper.

Ireland are being coached by former T&T and West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons.
